Commercial Description:
Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.

Recommended serving temperature 16°C/61°F Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23,5°P, 80 IBU, 10% ABV.

Editor's note: Even though the label says "Barley Wine" in the States, the brewery says it's brewed to be an IIPA. The American label was a glitch. In Europe it's sold as an IIPA.

500 mL bottle purchased from Green’s Beverage in Atlanta, GA. Poured an opaque brown color with a three finger, fluffy tan head that remained for what seemed like forever. The nose was very similar to a barley wine. Notes of brown sugar, molasses and alcohol were present, but notes of pine and citrus reminded me of a IIPA. It took a bit for me to resolve the aroma, but in the end, its great. The flavor is reminiscent of a barley wine as well, with a solid, sweet malt background, balanced with a solid resiny, bitter finish. I never found the chocolate malt, so it must have just been for color. The palate was just average, with a chewy, solid mouthfeel, a full body, and a carbonation that was way too fizzy. Overall, this was an excellent beer, and I’m glad to have tried it. I can’t wait to try my next bottle in about a year and see how this has aged.

Dark brown in color with a thin head sitting on top. Decent looking beer. Very carbonated. Very malty. Nice texture. Alcohol is present. The beer has nice flavors. The description says that they use chocolate malts. I taste a subtle roast and nut type flavor from that. Just too carbonated for me. I like the aroma, nice and malty, and I think the taste is great.

Poured a hazy dark brown color with a large amount of froathy bubbly tan head. Aroma is grapefruit hops, bit of raisins, slight oakiness, and sweet dark sugars. Flavor is an interesting blend - starts with a lot of toasted dark malts, very dry and bitter, slight chocolate, and a bit of light citrus. Overall, excellent beer.

Thanks to 3Faveryrogue for sharing this. Pours dark brown with a fizzy tan head. Aroma is of malt, sugar, grapefruit, hops, and alcohol. Has a very bready, underlying aroma to it all. Taste is of caramel malt, citrus hops, dark fruits, chocolate, and yeast. Big alcohol bite, which warms immensely. Malt presence is way bigger than an avergae DIPA. This beer is a strange mix of a DIPA and a barleywine. It is well balanced though.

This beer is an enigmatic chameleon. (I just like cool words.) Murky brown pour with hot chocolate brown head. Smells of malt booze, bread, caramel, sweet hops and powdered donut. Hops are super astringent on palate, but sufficient nonetheless. Taste shows some characteristics of a barleywine, DIPA, and yes a strong or a reg IPA. Interesting but not impressive.

Bottle from 2007 (drank 2/4/09). Pours a deep dark brown with a thick light tan head. Very sweet dark malt nose, dried dark fruits, and oak on the nose. Flavors is strong alcohol on first sip. Mild hopiness. Some chocolate malt towards the end and some woodiness and bread flavors from the bottle conditioning. A good bite to it. Mouth is very bitter and dry. A really good beer. Had I of realized it wasn’t a barley wine I wouldn’t of aged it. Would like to try again fresher.

16.9 oz bottle part of an extras package from Beerlando. Thanks! Pours a hazy brown with very dark edges, light brown big head that looks to be cakey and dissipates a little. Aromas are interesting: darker malts and fruits mix with prominent fruity hops, bitter nose, and touches of oak, alcohol, and sweet dark malts. Initial is smooth, not cloying, dark smooth malts with light oak and light darker fruity cherry and dried fruits mix well with fruity bitter hoppiness with light piney resin. Thick almost chewy body, touches of tobacco, creamy sweet malt, and oak. This is a very interesting beer. Balance is interesting, but certainly there. Warms the belly as it begins to accumulate inside me. I was much happier with this than I thought I’d be. Cheers!
