Commercial Description:
Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.

Recommended serving temperature 16°C/61°F Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23,5°P, 80 IBU, 10% ABV.

Editor's note: Even though the label says "Barley Wine" in the States, the brewery says it's brewed to be an IIPA. The American label was a glitch. In Europe it's sold as an IIPA.

Bottle. Pours copper with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, cookie, chocolate, citrus and alcohol. The flavour is caramel malt, chocolate, dried fruit and alcohol. Good mouthfeel with a very bitter finish. A very good beer.

Bottle from 2007 (drank 2/4/09). Pours a deep dark brown with a thick light tan head. Very sweet dark malt nose, dried dark fruits, and oak on the nose. Flavors is strong alcohol on first sip. Mild hopiness. Some chocolate malt towards the end and some woodiness and bread flavors from the bottle conditioning. A good bite to it. Mouth is very bitter and dry. A really good beer. Had I of realized it wasn’t a barley wine I wouldn’t of aged it. Would like to try again fresher.

16.9 oz bottle part of an extras package from Beerlando. Thanks! Pours a hazy brown with very dark edges, light brown big head that looks to be cakey and dissipates a little. Aromas are interesting: darker malts and fruits mix with prominent fruity hops, bitter nose, and touches of oak, alcohol, and sweet dark malts. Initial is smooth, not cloying, dark smooth malts with light oak and light darker fruity cherry and dried fruits mix well with fruity bitter hoppiness with light piney resin. Thick almost chewy body, touches of tobacco, creamy sweet malt, and oak. This is a very interesting beer. Balance is interesting, but certainly there. Warms the belly as it begins to accumulate inside me. I was much happier with this than I thought I’d be. Cheers!

Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured a mahogany color with a large brown head. The aroma was an interestingly complex mix of bitter, harsh fruity hops, a touch of cherry, scotch, wood and spruce. The flavor was sharp with fruit, spruce, pine, tobacco and a faint hint of smoke. The mouthfeel was fairly thick and the alcohol showed through prominently. Very very complex. This beer has some very interesting features but did not quite gel enough to score higher.

bottle poured into a snifter has an orange brown color and a heavy coating of off white head that retained well. aroma has sweet malt, peppery hops, sugar sweetness, and spiced yeast. a little musty but nice. mouth feel is medium but coats well, frothed up with the high carbonation. flavor has some roast, toasted malt, bitter hops, nutmeg, spiced yeast, and something that gives it a twang i cant quite pin down. sweet and bitter with some interesting spices going on. somewhat in a style of it’s own.

Bottle in snifter. Dark brownish red with nice lasting tan head and lace. Toasted brown sugar aroma with hops yeast and a little warmth. Toasted brown sugar malt with mild dark fruit mild wood and very dry (almost too dry) mildy bitter finish with a little lingering woodsiness. Medium-full body and medium low carbo (and room temp) make for a great creamy mouthfeel. An excellent barleywine...as an IIPA, not so much.

Decent head retention, powerful lacing, and a tawny, opaque hue. A nose of slightly aged hops (would’ve been better fresh). Caramel malt and some fruity phenols. Mouth feel is slightly thin, but flavor profile is rocketsauce. Undeniably smooth for 10% ABV.
