Commercial Description:
Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.

Recommended serving temperature 16°C/61°F Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23,5°P, 80 IBU, 10% ABV.

Editor's note: Even though the label says "Barley Wine" in the States, the brewery says it's brewed to be an IIPA. The American label was a glitch. In Europe it's sold as an IIPA.

500ml bottle, Batch 278, with thanks to sunevdj! Pours dark brown with ruby and burgundy highlights, and a frothy tan head; good lacing. Aroma is somewhat subdued, with some hoppy pine and citrus, dark fresh fruits, and caramel. Flavor has a slight hop bite that lingers, with the fresh dark fruits and some gentle sweet caramel malts there as well, some warming, but otherwise the alcohol is undetectable. Since its been reclassified and debated, I guess I’ll weight in and say I think it straddles the line very well between an IIPA and a barleywine. Very unique and enjoyable!

Opaque dark brown with a big creamy brown head that last quite a while. Nice lacing in my tulip glass. Raisin and plum aroma with a some alcohol. Bitter to Sweet with some roasted malts. Medium to full bodied. Not a run of the mill Barley Wine. A very nice beer.

740 ml bottle. The label is subtitled Barley Wine-Style Ale. Deep aromas of citrus and pine backed by strongly roasted caramel. Near opaque brown color with a powerful beige head. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. The flavor is almost medicinally toasted malt with lots of citrus and resin hop. Sort of a baking chocolate character lurking within. This is so sweet and so bitter. The finish is reasonably dry as the sugars go away, and it’s really decently bitter, cause the hops stick. A tasty sipper.

A double IPA with a dark brown look, nice with something different! The dark brown look is caused by some amount of roasted malts challengin the usual strong hobby notes of grape and pine, by giving the nose a sleightly toasted/burned touch, kinda like a schwarzbeer. At first the roastyness isnt felt at all in the flavor, just a powerfull overwhelming bitterness backed up by some honney like sweetness. Just as it should be! The roasted malts are tasted in the finish, and definetly makes this beer one of the most interesting double IPA’s i’ve had. Good one.

bottle.....pours darkey than your average barleywine or DIIPA or whatever this may be. also a very thick fluffy light brown head.....nose of light pine and floral hops accented by some malt.....flavors of caramel which then evolve to some chewy pine hops that add a bit of bitterness to the mix.
