| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 12, 2007 I would consider this a barleywine versus an imperial ipa as it is listed. Caramel and vanilla, some piney hops in the background, which seemed more pronounced as the beer warmed. As a barleywine, I like them even hoppier, however, this is a pretty good attempt nonetheless. brewblackhole (1385), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 12, 2007 My label also said barleywine, aroma is grainey malt and hops ,you can just smell that this brew will have that wonderful Baltic smoothness, and your not disappointed, taste is velvety caramel malt with a bg hop punch, and an enjoyable bitter finish,if this is a barleywine, its the hoppiest one I’ve ever had. For sure more of an Imperial IPA, again how good must this be fresh from the tap undsioux7 (561), Cologne, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 11, 2007 My bottle of batch #100 says "barleywine" so I am not sure if this is the right place for the rating or not.
Pours very dark brown w/ big tan head. Aroma of sweet malt, alchohol, resiny hops. Taste is same as aroma, but with some chocolate/caramel in ther as well. Will have to try this again with some age on it.
I don’t rate to style, but I am not sure what style this would be even! SamuraiArtist (292), portland, Oregon, USA

Aroma of toasty malts and floral, earthy hop aroma. Flavor is malty and toasty. Cooked caramel and light roasty chocolte and nutty. Moderate hop bitterness with a floral hop finish and moderately dry. brentfeesh (1040), Gadsden, Alabama, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 8, 2007 22oz bottle. Much darker than I expected. Pours a musty, murky brown color with a wisp of head. Pine, oak, and malt in the aroma with hints of citrus or perhaps even fruit. Fairly heavy aroma though not was strong and forceful upon the nose as you would expect. The flavor has big pine and malt along with plenty of alcohol and wood hints. Full body, creamy mouth feel with a dry finish. I enjoyed this but I definitely think I’ll let the other bottle age. Barley wine this is, I don’t know why some people argue that this is a double IPA. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 6, 2007 Updated: Jan 17, 2009Thanks to doclock for this extra. Pours a surprisingly dark brew, practically black in the glass. The head is one to two fingers, creamy, and light tan. The nose is upfront sweet, resiny hops, citrusy, alcohol, . The flavor is a good hop malt balance, leaning more towards an upfront citrusy waxy hop feel, alcohol is there for sure, some caramel. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 6, 2007 The color was dark brown, very dark for an imperial ipa. The head was thin, creamy, and medium beige. The aroma was very hoppy, alcohol, aged, and citris. The flavor was extremely hoppy, waxy/bitter at the back of the mouth, alcohol, and grassy. The palate was smooth. The finish was warm and waxy.
