| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 20, 2007 Comes in its own cylinder container: bottle 02157 - Very dark brown pour to settle inky, impenetrable black. A huge cinnamon brown colored cupcake of a foam sits on top with immense density. Slowly and evenly settles down to a thickly compacted skim. Bits and spots of lace are thown about in a minimal display of intensity.
Aroma is monsterously rich and tangy with darker then dark malts of thick molasses, chewy chocolate, dark fruityness thats mostly pruney and raisiny. Rummy heat adds lots of depth to its sweet, dark side.
Taste has immeasurable amounts of lushly thick flavors. Enormously tangy at first, but as it sits chocolate takes a bit more richness, but doesn’t quite take the tang away. Very, very, dark and tangy with molassas, vanilla paste, chocolate cream pie, caramel, lots of buzzing warmth, and lipsticked with raisiny goodness and a bit of cream steamed espresso. Its not quite as complex as their regular Imperial Stout, but just as damn big if not bigger on the palate. The most difference I find is the spice and the heat. This has way more warmth, alot more, it penetrates immediately upon the first sip and lasts the whole bottle through. Making for a much longer session of sipping. The finish melds into a stuntingly high ended dryness of hops and a whirlwind of chocolate cream leftovers bittering off with a liquescensce of mild vanilla, butter cream, and pecan peppered espresso.
Wowzaa! This is some thick stuff! Luxurious warmth forms quickly around a big, creamy, rich, lush, body of tanged flavors. Its boldness and creamy richness is beyond itself and is remarkably near the scope and depth of some kind of chocolate mercury.
A damn nice Imperial stout! The bigness of body supersedes its flavors, but matches the painterly palate of creamy richness that is like drinking some kind of chocolatey tanged elixer oil. Watch out for that 16%, as its goin’ nowhere. It sits with ya from first sip to last.

A deep opaque black with a frothy mocha cap that leaves nice lace. In the nose I get muted coffee, dark chocolate, anise, vanilla, alcohol, burnt sugars and roasty malts. Tastes quite sweet, but is balanced with loads of hops. Very roasty, sweet dark chocolate, boozey like dark rum, black coffee, minty hops. This has mellowed nicely and was quite drinkable for the weight. Very good. Thanks Harry! BrotherGrendel (588), San Diego, California, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Nov 12, 2009 Thanks zuluflyboy for the share. Pours imperial stout brown with a dark tan dissipating head. Nose is booze, dark fruit, slight roast, and slight coffee. Flavor is booze, chocolate, booze, dark fruit, booze, coffee, booze, and booze. Medium-bodied beer with a thick, almost chewy mouthfeel. Interesting beer, better than 2nd, but needs about 8-10 years to settle down, I think. JoeTheYounger (262), California, USA

Poured a dark dark horizon brown color with no head. Aroma of Brandy, figs, dark roasted fruits, raisins, alcohol. Taste of sweet prunes, roasted coffee, toffee, very strong and well balanced. Low carbonation thats thick and coats the glass. Overall very very good. I think this one was a bit better than Dark Horizon 2nd edition. DuffManSW (293), Riverside, California, USA

Nose of dark earthy oak and bourbon, savory soy and molasses. "Someone tripped on the cellar steps to an all wood wine cellar with a bottle of bourbon in their hand." Vanilla and light alcohol, the flavor is pine, wood, resin, hops, alcohol, molasses, marinade, gin, muddled wood, coffee, grinder and bourbon. Awesome. polomagnifico (534), Saginaw, Michigan, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Sep 21, 2009 Bottle #01776 from ygtbsm94, thanks a million man. The last unique brew from my cellar and marking the end of my beer rating quest. Aroma has fruity notes of molasses, caramel, red wine, oak, coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts. Pitch black hue with a small creamy tan head that lingered around the edges quite nicely and left little lace. Flavor is sweet with some licorice coming forward then transistions to a slight cloying bitterness. Palate is very full bodied and oily soft with a noticable alcohol burn. Overall a lovely work of art. Wonderfully complex nose with a classic Imp stout appearance. Flavor is very sweet and noticeably bitter but the alcohol is felt more than smell or tasted. The palate is extreme but still quite pleasent. The coffee aspect is not very apparent thank goodness. A truly lovely brew. A great brew to mark the end of this great hobby. I will miss these moments but this journey has come to an end. Bravo Nøgne Ø! Bravo! Geokkjer (256), Kristiansand, Norway
