| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 5, 2009 Bottle courtesy of GMCC2181 – thanks G to the Mc! Pours a pitch black with minimal head, sans for a tan head around the glass. The nose is coffee, roasted malt and booze. The taste is dark fruits, burnt malt and coffee with some serious pepper in the finish. More roasty than the first edition but just as hot. Medium mouth feel. Hot, but good. Thanks G-Spot!! jarspag (600), Los Angeles, California, USA

Hot as hell...saving until at least Fall 09 like they ask is much recommended. Oily, boozy, quite messy. Tough to drink, this can’t even hang w/ the 1st edition. Would love to re-visit. railcat1 (582), Orlando, Florida, USA

| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 30, 2009 Bottle: Pours black with a small head. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, alcohol and loads of liquorice. Flavour is roasty with a lot of really salty liquorice. Rough and boozy. Way too young at the moment. hopscotch (5525), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 27, 2009 Bottle… Pours menacingly black with a small, creamy, brown head. Decent retention. Neither the head nor the lacework is amazing, but the brown, oily coating left on the interior of my glass is extraordinary. The aroma is as intense as the appearance; burnt and bitter with earthy notes of leather, charcoal and ethanol layered upon a secondary wave of espresso and black cocoa nibs. Full-bodied and oily with modest carbonation. Big, bold, burnt and boozy essences almost entirely snuff out a moderately sweet bit of caramel that fights its way through the muck in order to lightly kiss my palate. Envision a churning cauldron full of everything dark, black, manacing and evil. As intense (if not more so) as its predecessor (DH First Edition). Bitter, charred, salty finish. Nothing shy or subtle about this one. This bitch is rough around the edges now, but I bet she mellows nicely with age... everything and everybody does. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 23, 2009 Bottled. Pours out in an opaque black colour with a lasting brown foam. Huge aroma of black coffee, dark chocolate, alcohol and anise with notes of acetone, paint and spices. Full-bodied and chewy of course with notes of licorice, alcohol, coffee and paint. Long roasted and warming finish of licorice, black coffee and alcohol. At this stage, it’s a bit young and hot but it deficiently has potential to be a black grandiose butterfly.
