Motor oil pour, with - as the name suggests - a complete absence of light. Barely any head or carbonation to this. Some roasted malts in the nose, along with booze, and an overpowering sweetness. Mouthfeel is full and smooth, almost milky thick. Lots of chocolate notes, not the overpowering roast bomb I’d expected/feared. The excessive element is the alcohol heat, but there’s enough complexity to withstand it, as tobacco, molasses, and roasted bean mingle. Pretty good sipping impy, but nothing I’m glad to have gotten the free taste of this one. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA

Heavy roast and cocoa, coffee, and charred wood. Flavor is again heavy in roast with molasses, espresso, chocolate, and more charred wood. The high abv comes through in the end, despite a rich roastiness throughout. Wow, this is intense. I wish I had the patience to age a bottle for 10 years or so... I’m just proud of myself to have enough patience to take 2 1/2 hours to drink it!

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 6, 2009 Chocolate LIsterine. There is a good beer under the booze, hints of chocolate and a nice thick mouth are overshadowed by the heat. This burns quite a while after the taste, and my liquor reflex goes off when drinking it. Had to chase it with water. This gives me a whole new appreciation for Black Magick, which at 15ish ABV is nowhere near the rocket fuel that this one is. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 5, 2009 Bottled. Pitch black, short head. Aroma of big roasted malt, chocolat, coffee. Bitter and malty taste. Quite alcoholic again. I dont see much difference with the 1st edition tbh. daknole (2940), Plantation, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 1, 2009 Bottle opened at CCB last night. Black pour. Strong as hell aroma of molasses, roasted malt, booze, burned coffee beans. Flavor is hot. Really damn hot. This one needs to sit...at least a year...maybe more. Roasty, hoppy and hot as hell . Will be good! xmarcnolanx (793), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA

Taste is of burning, alcohol, sweet dark malts, cocoa, and that’s it.
Creamy, fizzy mouth-feel with some good amount of alcohol.
This thing is just too hot.
My mouth is numb. NoiZe (1319), Mooi Zeist, Netherlands

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 24, 2009 actually says 17.5% abv on the bottle. pours black with dark brown head. surprised at the head for a 35 proof beer. smells sweet and choclatey. coca and a touch of coffee and molasses as well. feel is actually well done for such a strong beer. you can’t tell it’s strength til it goes down...warm all the way to the belly-right up to the point where any "hotter" would take away from it, but it doesn’t go that far. the only "bad" thing about this beer is the roasted malt flavors and hops can’t quite make their way throught the alcohol. quite enjoyable, but not quite worth the $24.99.
