Aromas of coffee, chocolate, and alcohol with a light backing of roastienss. The flavor found smooth roast coffee and milk chocolate. Medium body, warming, and a roast aftertaste. Nice! | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 14, 2009 Bottle. A black beer with a very thin brown head. Big boozy nose with strong roasted notes and hints of wood and tobacco. Full, thick body with a sticky mouthfeel. Boy this is a booze bomb. Flavor also contains lots of dense chocolate notes with anise and tar. Finishes with lots of warming alcohol. I agree with other raters that it seems it needs a little more time to mellow but not bad young either. TURDFERGUSON (1606), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA

What a syrup mess this is. Reminded me a lot of Mikeller Black and X. Just too much alcohol its tough to take in the rest. Oscbert (550), Sacramento, California, USA

~Awesome brew! Why is this not in top 50?! One of my favorites! Excellent! JCB (1796), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 9, 2009 Taste courtesy of Jason at the Carrboro Beverage Company - thanks, dude! Motor oil pour, with - as the name suggests - a complete absence of light. Barely any head or carbonation to this. Some roasted malts in the nose, along with booze, and an overpowering sweetness. Mouthfeel is full and smooth, almost milky thick. Lots of chocolate notes, not the overpowering roast bomb I’d expected/feared. The excessive element is the alcohol heat, but there’s enough complexity to withstand it, as tobacco, molasses, and roasted bean mingle. Pretty good sipping impy, but nothing I’m glad to have gotten the free taste of this one. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 7, 2009 Bottle - thanks biggcb. Dark brown, near black pour with a finger of brown head. Heavy roast and cocoa, coffee, and charred wood. Flavor is again heavy in roast with molasses, espresso, chocolate, and more charred wood. The high abv comes through in the end, despite a rich roastiness throughout. Wow, this is intense. I wish I had the patience to age a bottle for 10 years or so... I’m just proud of myself to have enough patience to take 2 1/2 hours to drink it!

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 6, 2009 Chocolate LIsterine. There is a good beer under the booze, hints of chocolate and a nice thick mouth are overshadowed by the heat. This burns quite a while after the taste, and my liquor reflex goes off when drinking it. Had to chase it with water. This gives me a whole new appreciation for Black Magick, which at 15ish ABV is nowhere near the rocket fuel that this one is. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 5, 2009 Bottled. Pitch black, short head. Aroma of big roasted malt, chocolat, coffee. Bitter and malty taste. Quite alcoholic again. I dont see much difference with the 1st edition tbh.
