A beer to try before you die. A beer that, I believe, lives up to it’s hype. A beer that will divide people - those who love it and those who don’t, nothing in between. Unlike many of these extreme style beers I could easily drink one of these to myself. Not to be unselfish or that I’m an alcoholic (that just comes with the territory....) but it slips down rather easily. However this was shared between five of us. Jet black in colour with an off white, creamy, lasting head. Aromas of burnt coffee, dried fruits and alcohol. Big, thick and rich on the palate. Chocolate, plum, raisin, coffee, hops, obvious but balanced spirity notes and acidic twang, charcoal, creamy and smooth. The alcohol and acid bite initially seems to come on too strong but it is quickly swallowed up by the full rich flavours and silky smooth texture. I’m convinced that the hype is bang on for this one....

Opaque black pour with smoky aroma follows into flavor. Oily mouthfeel. Dark malt richness quickly replaced by alcohol burn.

Solid black body, creamy oily brown head. Coffee, alcohol and chocolate malt aroma. Great balance of sweet chocolate malt and rich roast/burnt bitter malt and hops. Alcohol is warming.

Black pour, tar.. Aroma is BOOZE and vanilla, wood, rum, chocolate. Flavor is deep bitter chocolate with immense boozey notes, a little too much alcohol. Not balanced enough in my opinion. A booze bomb. The primary chocolate and vanilla wood flavors are drowned by an all encompassing alcohol presence. A sipper that I would put down for a year or two to mellow out.

Pour is some of the blackest I’ve ever seen with a very unique reddish brown head. Aroma is gratuitous vanilla, caramel, marshmallow, and massive Baileys/Kahlua. Massive sweetness, cream, coffee, chocolate, and booze. Flavor is massively boozy with lots of caramel, chocolate, caramel, and cream. Perhaps even much for my big-beered-booze-hound craftycarl21... Leaves a lip chaping ethanol burn in its wake- this little diddy will put some hair on your chest... Palate is thoroughly effervescent, warming, and finishes dry and alcoholic. Haha good shit...fuck

17.5% ABV, 500 mL bottle. Pour is black as night, with a reddish brown head that dissipated almost immediately. Aroma is rich with vanilla, caramel, marshmallow, a bit of roast, and definite booze, much like Kahlua. Flavor is huge with booze, very close to unbalanced, but I do love the high ABV. Alcohol is accented with caramel, molasses, and cream in the flavor. Palate is, again, stinging, much like drinking a liqueur, but it somehow gets away with it. For some, this would be too much- for others, a bold and expressive offering from Nogne. I, apparently, fall into the latter group.

Rich black hue with a dark brown, creamy head. Powerful aroma of smoky coffee, cola spices and tobacco. Moderate to heavy sweetness, similarly high acidity, moderate bitterness. Fruity, dark flavors like cherries and plums stem from the combination of elevated sweetness and acidity. Moderately hot, thoroughly carbonated, slick texture, full bodied. The alcohol is too bold, sure, but the rampant acidity is what really distracts me from enjoying this beer. Of course, without the high acidity the sweetness might become toothachingly strong. Oh dear. 50 cl bottle, shared by Jukkabro.

0.5L bottle, courtesy of joet. Thanks, Joe! Pours a slightly oily, dark blackish-brown color; mostly headless. Huge amounts of burnt malts, bitter chocolate, leather and rough alcohol in the nose; overt alcohol; very rough, with some nice core notes hidden underneath the heat. Full mouthfeel: loads of oily charred malts, bitter chocolate, leather and light ashiness; very rough nose; this is much smoother in the mouth; not seamless, but good; reasonably well-hidden alcohol. Lasting, bitter finish: dark chocolate, nicely balanced end.

Deep black, think quickly dissipating tan head, no lacing.
Aroma of molasses, alcohol, dark fruits, burnt malts.
Flavour is quite warm, toasty and burnt, dark fruits, cherry forest cake.
Very warm mouth, med body, med carb.
Finishes long, quite warm, burnt.

Not anywhere close to the beer that the 1st edition was. This is a bit thin and has a cola like carb. A shame really, I usually love this brewery.

500ml bottle purchased at Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York.

Opened on August 1, 2009.

Bottled on November 5,2007. Best before end 2010.
