Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

500 ml bottle. This bottle pretty much redefined the word ’gusher’ for me. Between the time I popped the cap and got a glass, there was a big brown puddle surrounding it on on the counter. I put the bottle in the sink, and by the time I cleaned the counter roughly a third of the contents had foamed out. The part I got to try was great!

500 ml bottle, bought in Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam.
Deepdeep brown body with a fantastic creamy and foamy head. Pleasant aroma with dark chocolate, cocoa, deep roasted malt and toasted caramel, some vanilla. Fine mouthfeel, oily texture. Interesting and rich flavor of roasted grains, bit of chocolate and tobacco, some coffee and toffee, nice fruity tastes like raisins and plum. Plus a freaky hop character. Sweet liqueric and roasted aftertaste. Exciting one!

Bottled. Dark color, short head. Aroma of roasted malt, licorice, some dried fruit, bit caramel, toffee, hint of chocolat. Bit dryish licorice taste, lots of roasted malts. Very nice stuff.

Bottle, tnx thewolf! Aroma has lots of (overripe & dried) fruits, chocolate, hint of spice, caramel, nuts and bourbon. Dark, reddish brown coloured with a thin, off-white head. The taste is sweet, bit bitter with all the fruity/chocolate/nutty malt and bourbon flavours. Medium-full bodied. Lingering palate. Remarkable good beer.

Bottle into goblet. One finger beige head a top a reddish dark brown body. Aromas of toffee, ripe banana, plums, nuts, tart berries, slight oxidation. Flavor is coffee, light milk chocolate, banana notes, nuts, sweet bready malt and mild hop bitterness in the finish. Some more oxidation as well. Palate is medium-full and soft, but with a fair amount of carbonation. Really flavorful and complex, its a shame I waited so long to drink this as the oxidation is becoming noticeable. Regardless, a very nice beverage.

Bottle from the Bier Stein in Eugene, OR. Got a ton of coffee flavor backed with a little spicy and some cocoa flavor. I was quite impressed with this brew.

This was an expensive beer at 5.99 for 500ml but I figured since the Imperial Stout was so good, why the fuck not? It looks like a porter to me, brown with a cocoa colored head. It also smells like a porter, roasty. Mouthfeel is silky and smooth. Taste is a little cocoa, oats, everything about this beer screams porter to me. This actually has nothing in common with the winter warmers I have had, I feel fucking deceived. I understand that beer from Norway has to cost more being an import but unfortunately this one is not worth the price unless you like obscure Norwegian porters like some kind of fucking nerd. Like me! Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 07-23-2007 16:36:26

Wow was this different from what I was expecting. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Taste is all roasted toffee and sweet candied fruits with a hefty hearty coffee backbone. Burnt coffee. Completely shocked by this one. Hoppy sweet coffee and toffee and plums and pears and banana...too complex to list. Just fantastic. Taste is remarkably similar to Hair of the Dog’s Adam.
