Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Bottle. Pours a rich, deep black. Aroma is plastic coffee and chocolate dust. Flavor is a seemingly oxidized mess of bitter chocolate malt and stale floral hops. Weak on the tongue. Avoid.

Bottle pours a deep mahogany body with a thick cocoa hued head that leaves sheet lacing wheni it finally subsides. Aroma has roast coffee, dark fruits(figs and dates), anise, and chocolate. Full body is supported by a coating and smooth carbonation. Taste is dominated by coffee notes. Chocolate and anise are evident. Dark fruits, mostly prunes, linger in the back ground. Finishes with roasty coffee notes. Excellent winter porter.

Bottle. Pours deep dark brown with a long lasting tan head. Sweet aroma, honey with bitter chocolate and nutmeg. Definite sweet caramel and chocolate flavor, a touch of underlying hop bitterness, cinnamon and a some other spice in there also. Very sticky and thick. Very good, this is almost a stout but lacking that roasted flavor.

Bottle split with Dallas. Pours a dark brown, practically black with small off-white lacing. The aroma is sweet cinnamon, fruity, and slight chocolate roast. Taste is chocolate malt, spicy mouthfeel with notes of chocolate and caramel.

Pours a coffee black with minimal, off white head. Nose smells like a spiced stout with notes of cinnamin and chocolate. Very smooth taste. Flavors of stout, mild seasonal spices, and chocolate come through in a nice blend. Slightly alcoholly but pleasant. Very nice beer.

Pours an opaque dark brown with a medium sized brown head. Aroma is very chocolatey, with heavy brown sugar, toffee, sweet malts, a little hop is detected too. Sweet aroma overall though. Very nice aroma. Flavor is again quite chocolatey, very sweet, but at the same time tarry and ashy, with mouth-coating maltiness. A little cloying is the sweetness, flavor would be near 10 if were just a tad less sweet. But still an awesome flavor. I like the espresso flavor throughout. Mouthfeel is rich, luxurious, awesome. A damn good beer overall, despite a couple of imperfections. Very soulful winter ale. Overall, world class minus.

3rd August 2008. Soft black beer with a tan head. Chocolate malt and a touch of fig leading to a subtle hop finish and a pronounced cinnamon like spice ending. Complex, unusual.

Bottle. Dark brown colour, almost black colour. Sweet, roasted malt aroma with notes of dark chocolate. Roasted malt flavour with some sweetness, coffee, liquorice and spices. Medium to full-bodied, some bitterness in the finish. Very good brew.
