Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a thick light tan head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, slight roasted malt, and chocolate. Flavor of roasted malts, some vegetal notes. Kinda bland actually. Just not a very enjoyable beer. These winter ales just do not seem to be put together very well.

Bottle, Winter Ale. Aroma of sweet malt, milky chocolate, mild roasted notes, some dextrose. Flavor overpowered by unpleasant, bitter coffee grinds on a sweetish malt base. Some nice coffee bitterness in there too, but goes over the edge and is not balanced by anything interesting. A letdown from Nogne O.

500. Pours a dark, nearly opaque blackish brown with very faint caramel highlights at the corners. Thick, dense, creamy tan head with dense lacing coming down the sides of the glass. Big burnt-toast nose, along with some mint, brown bread, spruce, and roastiness. Rather strange. This is what I get for starting the night with a pilsner and not changing the glass even when the styles wander far from it--concentrated and somewhat confusing aromas. Very creamy, medium body, with firm but restrained carb. Earthy, roasty, toasty, sprucey, slightly nutty mid-palate. Spicy, slightly sticky finish.

Glad that this came after Peculiar at my holiday tasting, as this is certainly the more superior beer. Pours charcoal black with an inviting brown head. Loaded with molasses, roasted coffee, pine, and fruit cake. Great depth and warmth.

16.9oz bottle about 1 yr old. Served in a Bells Snifter. Nose is roast, caramel, molasses and herbal and fruity hops. Thick mouthfeel. Smooth taste of milk chocolate, mocha, nice fruitiness, and piney hops. Something gives this beer quite a rush in the end, I thought it was the hop bitterness initially, but it could be the roasted malt and high alcohol combo. 7/4/7/4/15 god jul

[Bottle] A beautiful, dark color with a nice foam. Aroma of chokolate, coffee and burnt sugar. The flavor is roasted with coffee and chokolate.
