Dec 12, 2008 Pours a near black color with a big creamy dark head that lasts and laces. Aroma is big roasted malt, some pine hops, dark chocolate and a touch of nuttiness. Flavor is much the same, sweet and roasty up front, with some spice and fruit, then a big hoppy boozy finish. I liked it a lot.

Pours black with beige head.
Aroma is malty, hoppy with some faint notes of spices.
Taste has a lot of roastiness, chocolate-caramel malts. Spices are very subtle. Lightly hoppy.
Superb beer, very drinkable.

Dec 9, 2008 Dark muddy brown with a thin golden head. Aroma of cinnamon, spice and everything nice. Full bodied, warming sweet and smooth. Nice bitter finish. One of the top winter beers of the 2008 season.

Dec 6, 2008 A fantastic Christmas beer. Very complex, on the strong side, but not as strong as a lot of the other products on offer, a rich coffee and dark chocolate background, without being overwhelming - slightly sweet, but again not too much. The strength, bitterness, sweetness and smokiness are in perfect balance. Had this one both before and after a Brøckhouse Juleøl 2008, which I like, but is one-dimensional compared with the Nøgne Ø.

Dec 3, 2008 Nothing really wowed me about this one, but it was better than the Peculiar Ale. Mahogany pour produces a sandy brown head, 1/2 height. Minimal aroma that is reminiscent of Nestle Quik and raisins. Fairly moderate flavor, as well...with subtle chocolate, caramel, toffee, and brown sugar. Just a hint of spice. Not aggressive, not impressive.

Nov 30, 2008 pours a jet foamy black with a medium size foamy khaki head, some lacing too.
smell is of dark fruit, cocoa, spice, and a whiff of caramel.
taste is smooth, chocolate, some spice, coffee, some caramel, a little licorice, sweetness is hiding in the back.
overall very stoutish
