Burned malty aroma with salty liquorice and citric spices. Flavor is burned malts, liquorice, slight chocolate, coffee and quite strong spices. Smoothly bitter coffeeish finish. Strong aroma of caramel and hops. Flavor starts sweet malty with caramel and hops and finishes with a nice roastedness. Good viscous body. Nice warming in the belly. Solid beer. DocHop (278), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Apr 30, 2008 Pours a very dark brown with a pretty thick tan head that sticks around the edges. Aroma of intense caramel with some slightly roasted qualities and a little bit of earthy hop scents. Taste is similar to the aroma, except here the caramel is downplayed while the roasted malt is really pounded in. Still very sweet at first with a thick, creamy body and a lasting dry roasted finish. Aroma of malts, spices, and a hint of bourbon. Flavor of burnt malts, dark fruit, and spices. Medium bodied. It’s sweet and malty with a touch of alcohol esters and a piney hop note. Medium to full bodied and slightly warming. dmac (1420), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Apr 27, 2008 16.9 oz bottle purchased at Oak Tree. Pours a nice deep dark black with a super huge light brown foamy head. Aroma starts off very nice with notes of chocolate liquorice, mollasses, raisin, dark fruit, alcohol, roasted malts and grain. Medium to full bodied with good carbonation and some noticable alcohol warming. Flavor of chocolate, mollasses, grain, slight citrus. Really nice beer that leaves great lace and really "warms" you up.
