chicago, il PorterPounder (3132), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Apr 5, 2008 Brandon, Fl. - Kingdom Liquors - 500 ml bottle - labeled "Winter Ale". Dark chocolate colored pour - edging to black. Mocha colored head - thins out quickly. Aroma of licorice, fresh black potting soil. Pipe tobacco makes its way into the flavor as well as some Christmas spices, potting soil, bitter day old coffee rounds it out. Thick, creamy mouthfeel. Excellent winter warmer. Blom (390), Odense, Denmark Mar 28, 2008 Mahogani with a greyish head. Orange, mandarin and chocolate in the aroma and a potent spicy flavour with further notes of chocolate, vanilla and raisins. I enjoyed it very much. mvcramer (229), Arlington, Massachusetts, USA Mar 24, 2008 Always nice to find a brew from off the beaten path, and I enjoyed this one. An exquisite deep brown color on the pour with a rich, frothy, long-lasting, tan head. Aroma is of malty sweetness and the flavors that arouse the palate are similar. Just beautiful. A splendid winter beer. ratman197 (3137), Arvada, Colorado, USA Mar 24, 2008 Bottle poured a clear dark brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of carmel, vanilla, pepper, light toffee and a hint of spice. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roastiness, smoke, chocolate, light licorice and light spice with a smooth dry lingering roasty finish. ditmier (1019), Boise, Idaho, USA Mar 22, 2008 2007 Bottle - What a great experience, unlike anything else I have tasted. Pours a murky dark almost black with a tan 1" head. Soy sauce, and olive on the front end, bitter astringent coffee hop finale. At first I thought that the alcohol was hidden, but now as I drink it, I realize that as it warms, it also seemingly fortifies. A jolly good brew that would have been better closer to christmas... LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA Mar 22, 2008 ginger, sea salt, chocolate, carmel, and smoke in the aroma. love the smoke. flavor is smokey, carmelly, spicey like nutmeg and gingerbread. i love this beer, it’s perfect for wintery christmassy times when you’re not in the mood for eggnog. and did i mention i love the smokeyness? too little had for my appreciation of the appearance.
