Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

ginger, sea salt, chocolate, carmel, and smoke in the aroma. love the smoke. flavor is smokey, carmelly, spicey like nutmeg and gingerbread. i love this beer, it’s perfect for wintery christmassy times when you’re not in the mood for eggnog. and did i mention i love the smokeyness? too little had for my appreciation of the appearance.

Pour is dark blackish brown with a thin dense tan head...smell is sweet with caramel, molasses, and lightly rusty...thick sweet mouthfeel, with almost no carbonation...taste is very sweet with some roasty and cocoa flavors along with a little bit of dark fruits...spicy with cardamom and nutmeg...finish is lightly spicy...

Tried in the US as Winter Ale. Pours a dark black with a 2-finger creamy beige head. Has a dark coffee / chocolate creamy sweetness, as well as some very apparent alcohol in th earoma. The taste is a creamy burnt coffee and chocolate with a little bit of prune and bitter toffee. The other Nøgne Ø brews that I have had have all had excellent body, and this one is no different.

Pint bottle courtesy/shared with Naka. Pours black with khaki head. Nose is pretty big and fruity with lots of caramel and chocolate. Wow. Big on malt. Lots of caramel and chocolate to start that bleeds into a huge coffee roast taste with moderate bitter in the finish. Alcohol is present in the finish/after, but only slightly as a warming sensation in the back of the throat. Pretty good mouthfeel. This is definitely a tasty brew. Porter-esque. I’m a fan.

Bottle. Pours an amazing dark chocolate color with a thick creamy brown head. A great appearance. The aroma is light; some roasted caramel malt. The taste is dominated by a creamy chocolate and smooth roasted malt. Some spices and a bit of hops finish it out. A bit of Belgian yeast in there perhaps also. I really enjoyed this beer.

Aroma is sort of acidic, reminds me of yoghurt. Taste is fiery, yeasty and sweet with notes of rosemary (if I read my notes correctly). Well balanced.

Pours a dark dark, brown with a bit of a dark brown head. Smells of burnt coffee beans. Very smooth caramel toffee flavor with a hint of hops in the finish good winter warmer.

Bottle 500 ml
Appearance: Gusher , dark brown ale with creamy tanned top. Nice lacing presented.
Nose :Highly aromatic hops straight up front with muted grainy malts and coffee notes.
Flavor/Palate : Medium bodied. Mineral, earthy feel with semi dry alcohol. Drinkable brew with good hop accents. Alcohol slightly overexposed to my liking .Quiet good but it requires further maturing.
