Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

burnt aroma without all the spice that one generally associates with winter ales. slight nose and flavor of the booz content. very enjoyable and different yet still suitable for a winter ale. i feel as though tis is a great way for me to end the season on winter ales, although i am not sure it will be the last for the year it well surly be one of the best.

22ish oz? this is a weird one, tastes like burnt caramel and malt, nothign really stands out here. not bad but again, its not stupendous... i wish there was more flavor... something to balance the burnt roastiness.

Ooohh!! This is rich, this is powerful stuff. Once I got the top off the bottle it started foaming over the top. I quickly directed it down an old english pint I bought on Ghuznee Street, Wellington 18 years ago. It filled with coffee (not american, real!) colored aromatic stuff, crowned buy a thick foamy layer of tinted, airy ale. Head! That’s it. That’s an ale head, I finally grasp the meaning of it. I had a quick sip and offered one to my wife. She said Ooohh!! just like I had felt myself. So much aroma, so many flavors, so dense, so christmassy (it’s February now) ... so ...MUCH! This is an exceptional beer. You find all the usual christmas spices, but there is also a clear hint of resin and bog myrtle. It is good enough to just sip, and it just get better as it slowly approaches room temperature (I started it too cold - I know). I’ll have this with a sturdy meal with pork or brussel sprouts, or on its own just for pleasure, or with saffron cookies or marsipan bread, or a Västerbotten cheese, or anything else that can match its heavy generous amount of straightforward flavors. But first of all I hope I’ll have it again. And again, and again.................. I’m in love.................. I long for next Christmas.................

"Winter Ale" bottle. Deep brown, nearly opaque pour with a frothy, cascading tan head. Molasses hits you right in the nose. Some roasted malt, earthy spice, and instant cocoa as well. Smooth taste of molasses, but blended nicely with the caramel and chocolate malt. The hops give it a porter-like balance, as well as a spiced quality. This is exactly what I want out of a winter warmer.

2007 50 cl bottle from Liquid Solutions - Pours a clear brown color with a large three finger thick light tan head. Nice stringy lacing. Smells like a nice Porter. Aroma is a lightly roasted malt, light chocolate, and earthy hops. Flavor is much of the same. Alcohol is noticeable in the finish and slightly dry. Medium body. A good beer.

Bottle. Dark brown with a yellow-white head. Spicy and malty aroma - toffee, light hops. Malty flavor, acrid smokiness. Fine, but not for me.
