Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

black with a large creamy brown head. big hoppy aroma with some chocolate, caramel and coffee. flavor is a good blend of many flavors. lots of chocolate/coffee, some sweet buttery caramel, and a pretty big hop addition. medium bodied. bittersweet. nicely done as usual from the norwegian fellers.

Nose of caramel & spice, yeast, cola and alcohol. Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights. The enormous stiff tan cola head is fully lasting with a thick sheet of lace. The flavor is interesting...tastes like a belgian mixed with a brown. Well balanced, both sweet and roasted and no acidity. The full creamy body is soft.

Fairly dark brown pour with tan head. Lacing from the tan head. Moderate smell of spiciness, more mocha, toffee, hazelnut coffee. Tastes of the same. REALLY smoothes out and the flavors REALLY come out as it warms.

Bottle. Large beige thick creamy head that really lasted. Excellent lacework. Dark mahogany color. The initial sniff was roasted malt, liquorish, hint of chocolate and Christmas spice. Some dried fruit and almost port wine like. Over the palate burned malt, caramel and liquorish are dominating the picture. But some hoppy and even smoked notes can also be detected. Full bodied with an average carbonation and a hint of alcoholic texture. Well balanced moderated bitter and sweet flavor. Bitter burned malty finish.

The aroma has hops, coffee, caramel and burned malt. It’s dark like a stout, and the flavor is very malty with tones of hops and some burned flavors.

Bottle labelled Winter Ale. Poured a dark brown color with a smallish light brown head. Fantastic aroma of chocolate, nuts, caramel, dark fruit and vanilla. Somewhat thin palate and somewhat creamy; a slight smokey finish. Flavor really starts to come out with a little warmth. Chocolate, nuts and caramel dominate the flavor.
