scraff (1920), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Jun 10, 2007 Dense black, thick clingy kahaki head. Nose was nice with soft tones of chocolate cream, swirls of cinnamon coffee, and hints of cherry and raisin. Faints notes of fruitcake emerge upon further warming. Balanced flavors throughout with notes of soft roasted chocolate, hints of spiced dark fruit and coffee. It rounds out nicely with a late hop tone that keeps the malt well in check. Medium bodied with a fluffy mouthfeel, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Well done and quite drikable be it winter, summer, whatever... Magicdave6 (5383), London, Greater London, England Jun 9, 2007 Bottle shared with cgarvieuk. Pours really black with a whitwer head than expected. Aroma is really hoppy, grassy cirtus, lychee typical of nogne. Taste has hints of coffee, roasted barley with hints of citrus. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Jun 8, 2007 At Home in Bottle Thanks Tom for sharing this... Deep Solid Black ...High Hop nose ... odd for such a dark beer ... roast coffee ... very smooth ... soft mellow ... lots of soft roast malt ... touch of chocolate . mmm johnadam2002 (529), Hainesport, New Jersey, USA Jun 6, 2007 Poured a dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma of chocolate, malt, some fruit, and hints pine hops. Taste was mostly of malt with hints of chocolate and spice. Finished with hints of hops, coffee, and fruit. Very smoothe. Dorqui (1353), Brescia, Italy Jun 3, 2007 Updated: Sep 13, 2007Bottled. Black color, much dense and mellow one. Much lively nut haed; optimal fullness and resistance. Extremely alcoholic and flowery scent with decided vinous and stum notes. Dense, harmonious, solid and perfumed taste. Notes of smoked wood, red eged wine and floral final.
Thanks to mabjork for this beer. bhensonb (4181), Woodland, California, USA Jun 2, 2007 Aroma of a stout. Chocolate, coffee, and arguably malt. Black color, but there are ruby hilites when the glass is placed before halogen. There is a ferocious tan head. Definite piny hop hits the nose as the glass approaches the lips. Medium bodied. Low carbonation. It’s something like an IPA with coffee and chocolate. Not a huge amount of hop, but it seems to have some bitter beyond that of the coffee. Great treat for the mouth. The finish seems both dry and sweet, depending on which part of the tongue one notices. So if there was no malt, where is the sweet coming from? As they say, it’s complex. eaglefan538 (2351), Wilmington, Delaware, USA May 27, 2007 Poured a brownish color, ok initial head, decent retention, weak lacing. The aroma was nuts, chocolate, even some coffee. The flavor followed suit, some cocoa-chocolate notes, nuts for sure, and an un-named spice I couldn’t put my thumb on. A touch of astringency made this a little off in my book, light mouthfeel, slight acidity. MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA May 27, 2007 Bottle from capones, thanks Stegosaurus. Beautiful Dark pour with tan head. An aroma of chocolate, roast and coffee floats by your nose. Taste is warming and smooth. This should be considered a porter.
