Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Pours a very dark brown with almost no head. Very light nd fizzy. Some roastiness, dark fruit, and dark malts in the nose. Not very profound though. Had to work for it. Taste is pretty roasty somewhat like the brown but wth a more fruity taste. Very subtle fruit though. Slightly sweet, get more of it as it warms a few degrees. Pretty good.

Bottle Poured a dark red/brown body with hugh head. Aroma was nutty, malty with some milk chocolate being present. Flavor was smooth with a nice sweet malt, chocolate taste. Alcohol barely detected. Good ale.

Bottle. Dark ruby brown beer with a nice tan head. Chocolate and slight roast aroma and flavor. Slight spice and hops backing in the flavor. Nice balance. Lingering citrus/pine hops with some rich malt. Medium bodied.

Winter Ale. Dark brown, near black color with a very small head that quickly falls to a few bubbles. Strong malt aroma with ample amounts of coffee and bitter chocolate. Big, chocolatey flavor up front, but it faded rapidly into only malt. Not bitter, not sweet. A little spiciness, a hint of cloves and maybe cinnamon. Not what I expected at all and damn fine.

Beer pours dark brown with a tan colored head that is somewhat retained. Aroma is BIG and malty with roasted nuts, also some milk chocolate and a touch of licorice. Flavors of roasted malt with some real nice chocolate flavor, lots of nuttiness and a bit of strong coffee in the finish. This is a really enjoyable beer. I hope the other Nogne are as good.

bottled as winter ale. tall rocky dark tan head. body is blackish chestnut, opaque, and lighter brown at edges. aroma is roasted malt, roasted brazil nuts, and licorice. flavor is roasted licorice malt, some chocolate malt and faint dried fig. yes this tastes like a baltic porter, quite different than a typical winter ale but that’s ok. bitter roasty finish.

Poured a clear very dark brown color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma was sweet and malty with a medium amount of roast. Light spiciness and chocolate on the finish. A hint of fruitiness. Sweet roasty malt flavor. Some fruits and light spice. Notes of licorice and ginger with some sweet chocolate. Bitter semi-dry finish. Nice warmth.

Pours dark brown with ruby highlights and a small tan head that fades to a small ring. The aroma is loaded with sweet fresh malt, licorice, and a hint of nuts and chocolate. Taste is of sweet malt and licorice with a well balanced bitterness and a nutty aftertaste. Full mouthfeel but not to thick with the alcohol being well hidden. Another great beer from Nøgne.
