notalush (2627), Denver, Colorado, USA Mar 1, 2007 Very dark red, kind of burgundy pour, with large, fairly well-sustained tan head - very doughy, biscuit-like malt aroma, with hints of roasted nuts, light spice presence, chocolate pudding, and a touch of brown sugar - smells very much like an english strong ale - fairly soft carbonation, with a medium body - nice balance between sweet, bitter and roasty - lots of nutty flavors, with touches of dark chocolate and mild background spices - the pudding-like quality from the aroma comes out in the finish - everything about this beer seems like an english strong to me, so much so that’s I’d call for a reclassification of this one. sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 1, 2007 Bottle: Black pour with a tan head. Aroma, caramel, chocolate, and some roasted notes, a bit nutty. Flavor, caramel, coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, some more nuts, and a bit of spicing. Interesting brew, not sure what to make of it. Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Feb 26, 2007 Bottle courtesy of henrikb. Pours dark brown with a tan head taht dissipates quickly. Smells of chocolate, coffee, nuts, yogurt and hints of vanilla. Tastes of chocolate, coffee, pepper and somewhat nutty. Some raisin hints emerge as the beer warms. Mouthfeel is somewhat thick with a finish that features coffee and sugar prominently. voota (761), Melbourne, Australia Feb 25, 2007 Deep clear crimson with a creamy brown head. Aroma of spicy hops (must be the boiled chinook), coffee, toffee and some plummy fruits. Full body with a great smooth carbonation. Flavour is very hoppy, almost tastes like cascade hops, otherwise there is a great mocha flavour and some fruity esters. Warming malty finish, suprisingly lacking the hoppiness in the aroma. Very nice but too expensive to buy all the time. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA Feb 24, 2007 Roasted malt and some light hops in the aroma. Black body with a thick brown head. Medium palate. Lots of roasted malt up front in the flavor. Hints of vanilla are present, as well as a light hop finish. MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Feb 22, 2007 Mostly opaque brown with a medium head. Fair lacing. Aroma of chocolate malts, earth hops. Tastes of chocolate, liquorice and dark fruits. Bitter finish. Medium to full body. This is my first ’ale’ style, so I didn’t know what to expect. But it seems a lot like a porter or stout. mkobes (2103), paramus, New Jersey, USA Feb 22, 2007 Bottle at HDG. Deep dark brown in color with a nice reddish brown head that leaves a nice lacing. Chocolatety dark fruity aroma. Plums, raisins and fig notes. Malty and chocolate flavor. Medium bodied. Well balanced beer. Smooth tasting. Finish is chocolatey. Very nice beer. Bov (5403), Bienne, Switzerland Feb 20, 2007 courtesy of oh6gdx - opaque dark ruby-brown colour with a fine and stable beige head; beautiful lace; a bit toasty, rich aroma of prunes, honey and some undefined spices; sweet and clean mouthfeel, good malt backbone; slightly salty and bitter with a long dry aftertaste of dark chocolate and spices - a superb beer which invites to meditation
