Very complex, on the strong side, but not as strong as a lot of the other products on offer, a rich coffee and dark chocolate background, without being overwhelming - slightly sweet, but again not too much. The strength, bitterness, sweetness and smokiness are in perfect balance. Had this one both before and after a Brøckhouse Juleøl 2008, which I like, but is one-dimensional compared with the Nøgne Ø.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 25, 2009 Pours very dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is a bit spicy with roasted malts. Flavor is heavily roasted malts with some spices and some hops in the finish. Exactly what you could expect from a nogne christmas beer. Enjoyable. Cybercat (818), Georgia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 24, 2009 Pours out a deep, opaque, coffee-like sable with a frothy beige head. Aroma is malty with an overtone of molasses and hints of smoke and spice. Rich flavor has tones of molasses, unsweetened chocolate and coffee with just a whisper of sweetness. Texture is thick and heavy, smooth and fizzy, leaving a finish like smoky molasses. Happy Holidays! patrickfannon (372), Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA

Pours dark, opaque brown with a creamy, thin amber head. Aroma of chicory, chocolate, figs, roasted malts, and bread. Medium bodied with a full, smooth mouthfeel and a slightly warming finish. Very good stron ale; very stout-like. CamdenD (617), Madrid, Spain
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 23, 2009 Tasty and surprisingly drinkable strong ale. Nogne has again made a very very good "american" styled beer. This was enjoyed on tap at the Dirty Truth in Northampton -- quite a treat to have a relatively hard-to-find beer on tap. Taste was especially strong with nice malt/hop balance. MrGGen (243), Italy
