Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Bottle poured a clear dark brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of carmel, vanilla, pepper, light toffee and a hint of spice. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roastiness, smoke, chocolate, light licorice and light spice with a smooth dry lingering roasty finish.

Bottle, labeled ’Winter Ale’. Pours a very dark brown, practically black, with a large mostly-lasting tan head -- nice! Slightly mild aroma of caramel malt, a little roasty, with chocolate, some sweetness and a hint of alcohol. Flavour of caramel malt, nuts, chocolate and a good amount of hops. Tastes better and better the further you get through it and it warms. Alcohol’s well hidden. Medium bodied. What a great beer, Nogne haven’t disappointed me yet.

Packed with flavour, well balanced between the sweet and the dry finish. The alcohol is a bit too evident to give a higher rating. Nice roasted/burnt malt in the aroma.

Brandon, Fl. - Kingdom Liquors - 500 ml bottle - labeled "Winter Ale". Dark chocolate colored pour - edging to black. Mocha colored head - thins out quickly. Aroma of licorice, fresh black potting soil. Pipe tobacco makes its way into the flavor as well as some Christmas spices, potting soil, bitter day old coffee rounds it out. Thick, creamy mouthfeel. Excellent winter warmer.

Bottle. Thanks for sharing heemer. Poured and opaque black color. Head was tan. Smelled of chocolate, alcohol, and dried fruits. Slightly sweet on the tongue up front with roasty bitterness at the end. Chocolate and alcohol flavors, occasionally tasting like vodka.

Winter ale bottle, I believe it was via trade. Pours dark dark pretty much black with a tan head. Nose is roasted and sweet but light on the aroma. Taste is sweet malty and overall quite tasty.

Near black colored, medium sized beige head. Aroma is rich with roasted licorice, even some spices with sweet caramelly porterish tones. Mild alcohol also there. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is also roasted with strongly sweet touch, medium alcohol with coffee and bittersweetness in aftertaste. Almost too sweet for this strong beer, still world class brew.

Bottled. Dark color, short head. Aroma of roasted malt, licorice, some dried fruit, bit caramel, toffee, hint of chocolat. Bit dryish licorice taste, lots of roasted malts. Very nice stuff.
