Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Very dark brown. Nice nose - chocolate, toffee, smoked plum. The flavour is full, toffeeish, slightly smoky. Bitter finish. One of the best Nognes I’ve had.

Black color; creamy head. Delicate aroma of roasted malt, vanilla and hop. Good taste, on a good structured body, with malt, a lot of caramel, a touch of liquorice and vanilla, chocolate and leather. An excellent beer.

Bottled (brewed 2 Aug 2006). Opaque black, decent tan head. Very yeasty (and vegetably) aroma (also lots of yeast stick in bottle) with notes of toasted malts and chocolate. Very bitter flavor. "Floury" palate. Roasted malts, yeast. Long bitter and roasted aftertaste. I have to buy another bottle and cellar it till Xmas, this one was quite yeasty.

Fynske Øldage 2005, Odense. Dark brown with a nice head. The flavour is sweet with notes of roasted malt, caramel, dark fruits and a hint of clove. It has a nice bitterness. The alcohol is well hidden, and that is a potential danger - at least when beer tastes this well! It’s almost like a Barley Wine.
