Aroma of strong caramel/chocolate malts and a touch of spice. There’s a bit of a burn and a bit too much heat, giving what might ordinarily be a complex spiced beer a bit of a dull personality, or at least duller than one might hope. Certainly enjoyable but, given the pricing, not something I’d eagerly seek again. Palidor19 (1798), Brandon, Florida, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 11, 2006 Bottle, batch 175, shared by Jason. Very dark brown body, small tan head. Coffee, tart plum, tootsie roll chocolate in the compelling aroma. Seems like a cross between a dry stout, brown ale, and a Belgian. Malty toffee, chocolate, and an odd banana/peach/pear fruit element. Odd flavor but it doesn’t draw me it - maybe it’s the chocolatey sweetness w/o the balancing roast. plovmand (1737), Helsinge, Denmark
