Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Bottle. Pours a pitch black colour with a huge nice beige good lasting light brown head. Aroma of spices with roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and some vanille. Good mouthfeel. Roasty and quite spiced flavour with liquorice, some chocolate and dry hops. Good spiced and roasty finish. Tasty Christmas brew.

Bottle, bought @ SuperBrugsen, Bramdrupdam. Pours a deep ruby red and brown with a big beige frothy head. Powerful aroma, roasted, toffee, chocolate and spices. Some cinnamon and smokyness in there as well. Very creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is roasted, some slight coffee and chocolate. A relatively powerful bitterness sticks to my teeth and tongue. Good for dessert.

1pt .9oz bottle labeled Winter Ale. Poured a dark/deep reddish-brown color with a larged sized tan head. Aromas of bread, roast, chocolate, and I’m getting some spiciness. Tastes of roast, chocolate, dark fruits, caramel, and a trace of brown sugar. Alcohol well hidden. Interesting. When I dumped the last of the bottle in my glass, in came a bunch of large chunky floaters (or should I call them sinkers).

Bottle shared with cgarvieuk. Pours really black with a whitwer head than expected. Aroma is really hoppy, grassy cirtus, lychee typical of nogne. Taste has hints of coffee, roasted barley with hints of citrus.

Bottle... Very dark, cola-colored ale with a mid-sized, frothy, khaki head. Decent retention. Chocolate and cola aromas. Rich, chocolaty malt flavor with adequate bitterness and deeply roasted notes. Balanced almost perfectly... neither sweet nor overly hopped. Full-bodied and silky with reticent carbonation. Dark, chocolaty finish. Huge KUDOS to marsiblursi for boxing this one up and floating it across the Atlantic!

Bottle sampled on 3/12/07: Pours a nearly opaque with dark mahogany edges and a thin-lacing froth of dark tan head. Aroma of sweet earthy dark caramel malts with a touch of light spice. Body starts sweet and earthy with some sticky dark caramel and a drier lingering milk chocolate finish.
