Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

"God Jul" courtesy of Degarth. Bottled 020906. Best by 020910. Black/dark brown, brown edges, 2cm frothy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, subtle bitter, resinous hops, subtle yet pungent spice, alcohol warmth. Hops nearly disappear in the flavor, roasty malt and spices with some light alcohol. Good, but not much depth. Medium body, balanced. Decent.

Bottle, Winter Ale. Aroma of sweet malt, milky chocolate, mild roasted notes, some dextrose. Flavor overpowered by unpleasant, bitter coffee grinds on a sweetish malt base. Some nice coffee bitterness in there too, but goes over the edge and is not balanced by anything interesting. A letdown from Nogne O.

500 ml bottle. Dark brown with a hint of red. Medium-sized beige head. Rounded malty aroma with hints of chocolate and caramel. Full-bodied. Thick texture with lots of flavour. Caramel, rich malts, syrup and a bold hop flavour. Lots of hops indeed, but they balance the huge amounts of malts. This is an excellent brew. Perfectly balanced and with lots of character. This years version (2007) is even better than previous years.

Vintage 2 years old. Fantastic nice dark looking beer with lots of typical centennial notes in combination with sweet Christmas flavor such as caramel, dark fruit and very good hop aroma and flavor. Could drink a lot more of this beer. Very good!

Bottle. "Winter Ale" Pours a beautiful black with brown highlights. Great nose: caramel, roasted coffee, roasted malt, caramel and nuts. Nice malty sweetness balanced by some hops. Finishes quite robust and dry. I really enjoy this brewery.

Dense black with burgundy shades. A charminginly drinkable but still substantial brew. Aromas of whiskey, brown sugar, caramel. Tastes of chocolate, plum, flutters of port and rum. Smooth and rich palate with just the right touch of carbonated edge. Falling between the cracks classification, but doing it with a lot of style and grace.

Pours a nice brown, almost black color.Hints of spice, chocolate and nuts on the nose.this is definately reminding me of some good xmas beers.Medium body with coffee, nuts, spice, and caramel.Finish was a bit dry but overall this was pretty good.

First things first, I was very surprised by how dark this one poured. A very dark brown as you pour, it glows with a cloudy ruby color when held to the light. It appears very dense as it pours as well. Some roasted coffee in the nose that gives way to loads of caramel and toffee. Mild hop bitterness in this one but it’s mostly a lovely caramel mocha slice of liquid heaven. This one’s gonna warm me all freaking winter long.
