Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Bottle poured a brown with full head. Nose was chocolate, much more then I expected. Taste had some lactose, more like a stout/porter to me. Loved this baby, no presence of %. Lactose in here, as well.

"Winter Ale" 2007 bottle. Pours a dark chestnut brown with light brown head. Roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, nuts, hints of dark fruit and hops. Nice silky mouthfeel. Good beer, typical winter ale style.

500ml. bottle: This one had the "Winter Ale" name on the label. This beer pours a dark, murky opaque brown color. There was a bit of a dark tan head on mine. It subsides quickly and leaves some lacing. Nice nose to this one. Chocolate, caramel, raisins, hints of coffee and other fruits. What a full rounded flavor. Chocolate and coffee up front, but very well balanced with the caramel malts. Very tasty and easy to drink. You have no idea that this is 8.5%.

Very dark brown, nearly black - slight head, tan in color, around the sides of the glass. Deliciously dry, bitter, coffee and cocoa-filled aroma. The flavor is milky-sweet, the lactose is very pleasant to balance out the bitterness. Ever so slight astringency. Pleasant hoppiness is an interesting mix with the roastiness, woodiness and vanilla.

Bottle... Poured deep ruby-ish brown with a thick khaki head that lasted throughout the whole brew. Dark fruits like plums, raisins and berries on the nose with a bitter barley character. Nicely spiced with continuous dark fruits in the flavors. A little bit of a metallic hop bitterness to counter the sweeter flavors and a chocolaty finish.

This is my favorite Christmas beer from these guys. Dark brown color, milk chocolate, caramel. Sweet full bodied malty chocolatey mouth with christmas spices with a touch of nuttiness. Mildly sour, dry finish that somewhat tasted like beer mxed with scope.
