Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Bottle. Very dark brown color with some red highlights when held to the light. Medium sized tan head. Chocolate malt aroma with some brown sugar and a light hop presense in the background. Lightly bitter roasted malt flavor with some dark chocolate and hazelnuts. Quite dry, with a fairly thin body. Tastes kind of like a dry stout, but not as much of a roasted malt character.

muddy dark brown, with a thin head . i got the chunks at the bottom of the bottle which were nice and flocculant fortunately and settled quickly. what a rich beer. like gouden carolus mixed with andechser doppelbock. sweet, round, filling chocolate and whisky and fruit and supersmooth malt luxuriousness. i’m sure this would make a lot of sense in the middle of a 22hour xmas night in Norway. a wallowable dessert beer.

ginger, sea salt, chocolate, carmel, and smoke in the aroma. love the smoke. flavor is smokey, carmelly, spicey like nutmeg and gingerbread. i love this beer, it’s perfect for wintery christmassy times when you’re not in the mood for eggnog. and did i mention i love the smokeyness? too little had for my appreciation of the appearance.

Wow. Very complex beer. It pours a dark brown color with a small amount of tan head. The aroma is of dark chocolate with notes of dark fruit and I swear there’s port in it. Kind of thick and creamy in the mouth it finishes with some hop bite and warms as it goes down. Good Christmas beer!

Bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown with a firm, dense light brown head. Quite nice. Slightly tart, roasted, malty aroma with pine hops mucking about. Nice, although I find it a tad cloying. Sweetish, tart flavour with roasted malts and liquorice hops. Finish is sweet with lingering roasted and apple notes. It’s like a mix of an imperial stout (or related styles) and a pale ale or ipa, although the ‘imperial stout-ness’ is dominant. Has a lot of nice individual notes when broken down but combined they seem to clash a bit; it’s not so well-balanced. Also I find it a bit cloying. All this makes for a fairly lower overall score compared to the individual scores. 21-01-09.

Roasted malt and some light hops in the aroma. Black body with a thick brown head. Medium palate. Lots of roasted malt up front in the flavor. Hints of vanilla are present, as well as a light hop finish.
