Jet black with an initial medium, but fast fadeing light brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate with a hint of licorice. Flavor starts black coffee followed by dark chocolate, licorice and nuts with a light dry, lightly hoppy finish. The aroma is loaded with sweet fresh malt, licorice, and a hint of nuts and chocolate. Taste is of sweet malt and licorice with a well balanced bitterness and a nutty aftertaste. Burned malty aroma with salty liquorice and citric spices. Flavor is burned malts, liquorice, slight chocolate, coffee and quite strong spices. Smoothly bitter coffeeish finish. Medium to full bodied, smooth palate. Viciously burned and spicy but still extremely drinkable.
