Lots of malty sweetness in the flavour, and it really combines well with the aroma. A very good depth, and a lovely warming glow. Top notch madmitch76 (645), , Essex, England

Chocolate malt and a touch of fig leading to a subtle hop finish and a pronounced cinnamon like spice ending. Complex, unusual. MrChopin (643), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 3, 2009 Dark brown with a lush milky-tan head. Nose has some fantastic balance between sugary malt elements in chocolate and a nice, full spice. Flavor has a lot of milk chocolate sweetness, some smoke, light alcohol, spice. Sharp palate, moderate body. Unique and diverse, God Jul is high quality. nhorween (640), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 24, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown with a yellow-white head. Spicy and malty aroma - toffee, light hops. Malty flavor, acrid smokiness. Fine, but not for me. Gypsy19 (638), California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 16, 2009 Pours an opaque dark brown with a medium sized brown head. Aroma is very chocolatey, with heavy brown sugar, toffee, sweet malts, a little hop is detected too. Sweet aroma overall though. Very nice aroma. Flavor is again quite chocolatey, very sweet, but at the same time tarry and ashy, with mouth-coating maltiness. A little cloying is the sweetness, flavor would be near 10 if were just a tad less sweet. But still an awesome flavor. I like the espresso flavor throughout. Mouthfeel is rich, luxurious, awesome. A damn good beer overall, despite a couple of imperfections. Very soulful winter ale. Overall, world class minus. wickedpete (627), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 23, 2007 Dark black with almost no head formation. Aroma like raisins and caramel. Flavor is roasted with a chocolate sweetness and maybe some cola. This is incredibly smooth and stout-like. A real pleasure to drink.
