Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

50 cl bottle, batch#300, 2007. Dark brown color, brown head. Sweet roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, fruit. Complex, balanced and one of the great x-mas beers. Re-rate: From cask at Cardinal in Stavanger, 12.12.07. Very hazy, but fantastic aroma and flavor. Heaven!

16oz bottle courtesy of Knightly Spirits. Pours a deep black with a rich tan head. Nose is deep with caramel, mollasses, smoke and coffee and some spices I can’t quite identify that give it a real "christmasy" sensation. Crazy lacing on the glass. This is a monster of a beer, its quite similar to the Orkney Dark Island but with a much fuller mouthfeel and a noticable alcohol burn. Mollasses, smoke, coffee and caramel all war with a light hoppiness that keeps this thing from being TOO malty. This is really well balanced and incredibly tasty. Perfectly carbonated. By far the best "winter" or "chrismtas" ale I’ve had. Awesome.

500 ml bottle. Colour very dark brown, nearly black, with a brownish head. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee, liquorice and spices. Strong and full flavour: roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate. A bit smoky aftertaste with plenty of hops. An excellent beer, many thanks to janir for bringing me the bottle!

1pt .9oz bottle poured in a trappist glass. This much anticipated beer pours black with nice cream-colored head. It has a great aroma of raisins and chocolate. The body is thick and chewy but it doesn’t cling to your mouth. It goes down quickly leaving a great after taste. The hops are there because this isn’t a malty beer but they don’t stand out. The chocolate malt is wonderfully balanced the rest of the beer. This is a great beer.

(on bottle 2004 edit. thx Sigmund thx alot) My favorite among the Nøgne Ø so far, still has about 6 or 8 bottles from Sigmund. Grand X-mas brew here. I could go on in praising it, but I´ll just say: this is a perfect balanced ale, in all aspects; brewing in the making.

Thanks Jason. The beer pours to a dark brown body with a tan/brown head. The aroma is similar to Anchor OSA. Raisins, woodsy, coffee, spices. The flavor is sweet stoutish with oatmeal, chocolate, dry roastyness, seasonal spices, seems to be barrel aged. The palate is alcoholic, smooth, very easy drinking. Awesome. I want more.

Bottle. Red black colour with light brown head. Roasted coffee and chocolate in the aroma. Balanced roasted coffee and chocolate in the flavour. Pleasent finish.
