Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

[258-20070412] 1pt0.9floz (w/ jerc). Boozy chocolate malt aroma has nutty hints of raspberry fruit. Dark brown black red-hued body with a long-lasting creamy brown head. Dark chocolatey roasted malt flavour has lots of nut and wood notes. Full body is boozy and fairly bitter after. Points for blending a winter warmer but bitterness brings out too much nut.

500ml bottle. Pours a sinfully dark black body with big, thick brown head that paints the glass with lace on the way down. Rich roasted malt aroma; plenty of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted nuts and toffee, supported by hop aromas of grapefruit, bitter orange and pine. Hints of dark fruits and raisin also in the mix. Big mouthfeel, hugely lengthy with an excellent balance of drying bitterness and rich sweet malt. Moderate carbonation works well. I’d best describe the flavour as somewhere between an Imperial Porter and American IPA. Lots of roasted malt, toffee is quite prominant, with meaty undertones malt and bitter chocolate, mixed in with bitter orange, grass, cedar hop flavours. Notes of dried fruit come forth with warmth as the beer finishes slightly bitter, quite warming, with a lingering note of strong coffee. Really nice beer. Wasn’t sure entirely what to expect, but I was very happy what with it. Not entirely sure what this "American strong ale" catagory entails, but i’m liking the beers i’ve tried thus far.

16.9 oz bottle purchased at Oak Tree. Pours a nice deep dark black with a super huge light brown foamy head. Aroma starts off very nice with notes of chocolate liquorice, mollasses, raisin, dark fruit, alcohol, roasted malts and grain. Medium to full bodied with good carbonation and some noticable alcohol warming. Flavor of chocolate, mollasses, grain, slight citrus. Really nice beer that leaves great lace and really "warms" you up.

(note: I drank this beer 8°C when recommended temperature is 12°C) 500ml bottle: Light brown head. Almost pitch black. Aroma is sweet roasted malts with fruity apricot like hint. Palate is nice, Sparkly at tongue, but vanhishes fast. Aroma is more with same apricot-fruity tone, roasted malt is on the background. Sweet, but not too sweet because of little bit bitterness at the end. 8% alc vol, warms you up, like beer of this season should. I think I now know what I’m drinking on "christmas table" (traditional food board served at Christmas in Finland)

Wow was this different from what I was expecting. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Taste is all roasted toffee and sweet candied fruits with a hefty hearty coffee backbone. Burnt coffee. Completely shocked by this one. Hoppy sweet coffee and toffee and plums and pears and banana...too complex to list. Just fantastic. Taste is remarkably similar to Hair of the Dog’s Adam.

Pours dark with a tan head, lots of head. Goes down very smooth with a ton of flavor. Lots of caramel and malts! Excellent brew.
