Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Bottle. Pours a pitch black colour with a huge nice beige good lasting light brown head. Aroma of spices with roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and some vanille. Good mouthfeel. Roasty and quite spiced flavour with liquorice, some chocolate and dry hops. Good spiced and roasty finish. Tasty Christmas brew.

Bottled. Almost black coloured with a brownish head. Roasted and malty - some sweetness from various spices. A bit yeasty.

Mahogani with a greyish head. Orange, mandarin and chocolate in the aroma and a potent spicy flavour with further notes of chocolate, vanilla and raisins. I enjoyed it very much.

Dark dark brown with a with a thin dense tan greyish head. The nose is very much in line with a stout or strong porter. Big chocolate and caramel malt. A bit of roast. Some small hint of spice seems to come in. A bit of bubblegum. A bit creamy on the palate with some decent body and relatively subdued carbonation. Sweet caramel and chocolate malt is joined by a stronger roast, spice and slight hop character. A bit of alcohol. A relatively dry bit toasty roasty finish. Really pretty nice.

spices (cardamon, cloves, maybe), molasses, resin and alcohol. lasting lacy khaki head over so dark brown.. Tingle the down while laying down sticky, fragrant in the mouth. I taste roast malt, dark chocolate, brown sugar, not cloying. spices on the edge. sticky finish. bottle on 1/2 price closeout at belmont station.

The aroma has hops, coffee, caramel and burned malt. It’s dark like a stout, and the flavor is very malty with tones of hops and some burned flavors.

Pour basically black with a tan head. Smell is rich, bittersweet malt, cocoa. Taste is similar and more like a thin bodied porter with an added very subtle, but well blended spice component. More chocolatey and dark with a faint spice perhaps. This is actually very enjoyable. Some definite sweetness, but it is a bit bitter and dry enough in the finish to make it easily drinkable. One of the better beers from them, actually and not a style I typically am crazy for.
