Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Bottle: Black pour with a tan head. Aroma, caramel, chocolate, and some roasted notes, a bit nutty. Flavor, caramel, coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, some more nuts, and a bit of spicing. Interesting brew, not sure what to make of it.

Hazy dark brown, with a nice thick foamy brown head, leaving lacings. Heavy aroma of roasted/smoked malts and chocolate, with underlying porty notes. Lots of dusty hobs in the flavor along with roasted bitterness. On the sweet side we have the underlying overripe darkfruits, but its mainly a complex bitter roasted/hobby brew i think.

This christmas beer I really enjoyed. Didn’t notice how fast the head dissappeared... but now it’s gone! The aroma is good: lots of liqourice, dark chocolate, roasted malts and grapefruit! Liqourice and roasted malts is dominating flavour, but it isn’t as stoutish as appearance and the nose are.

Bottle. Pored a dark brown, opaque with a moderate tan head. Nice full malty aroma with a nice blend of spicy and fruity sweetness. Rich and creamy in the mouth tastes of caramel, and a raost character. Bitterness is subdued. Almost oily feeling in the mouth, but quite nice - very rich all around.

Bottle. Light brown creamy and lasting head. Very dark red almost black body. Spicy cocoa coffee aroma. Lovely cocoa coffee flavor with some bitterness as well. Alcohol notes but not dominant.

Pours dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of chocolate, hops, spices. This is a holiday ale. Thick body with chocolate and caramel dominating. Some spices mix with the overall sweetness. Solid brew.

16.9 oz bottle-Dark cola-like pour w/a slight off white head. Sweet, Belgian type aroma. Sweet flavor of candied sugar, caramel/toffee, some colander/spice. Solid winter type brew, pretty malty. I know I’m not drinking it @ the correct time of year to fully appreciate it but I still want to give this a fair rating. Long spiced finish; good brew.

Bottle sampled on 3/12/07: Pours a nearly opaque with dark mahogany edges and a thin-lacing froth of dark tan head. Aroma of sweet earthy dark caramel malts with a touch of light spice. Body starts sweet and earthy with some sticky dark caramel and a drier lingering milk chocolate finish.
