Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Smooth and tasty Norwegian christmas beer full of malty dark chocolate. Some nice spices too and a fine bitter finish but I fear that I missed something due to a little cold.

Alcohol and caramel strong on the aroma. Nice burnt sugar- caramel malty flavour. Slightly thin mid-palate, but finishes with a really rounded mouthfeel.

Bottle... Very dark, cola-colored ale with a mid-sized, frothy, khaki head. Decent retention. Chocolate and cola aromas. Rich, chocolaty malt flavor with adequate bitterness and deeply roasted notes. Balanced almost perfectly... neither sweet nor overly hopped. Full-bodied and silky with reticent carbonation. Dark, chocolaty finish. Huge KUDOS to marsiblursi for boxing this one up and floating it across the Atlantic!

Tried this again as Winter Ale, Gave it about the same rating. From a bottle recieved in a trade with oh6gdx. The body was very dark brown with a light tan head. The aroma was definite grapefruit with the twist and chocolate covered cherries. Interesting. The taste was cherries with some chocolate. This also had some woody notes and a little pine as I drank more. The body was surprisingly light for the abv. An interesting twist on the American Strong Ale category.

Bottle Poured a dark red/brown body with hugh head. Aroma was nutty, malty with some milk chocolate being present. Flavor was smooth with a nice sweet malt, chocolate taste. Alcohol barely detected. Good ale.

Bottle from BotteTrek.com. Pours dark like a stout. Aroma and flavor are similiar: chocolate and coffee. Mild sweet maltiness with a mild smoke taste. Slight bitter finish, medium mouthfeel. Rich and complex, but a little rough around the edges. Still one of my favorite brewers.

Deep, rich color. Roasted flavors dominate with wisps of bitter chocolate on the finish. Nice winter ale, albeit atypical for a Scandanavian brewery.
