Commercial Description:
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Dense black with burgundy shades. A charminginly drinkable but still substantial brew. Aromas of whiskey, brown sugar, caramel. Tastes of chocolate, plum, flutters of port and rum. Smooth and rich palate with just the right touch of carbonated edge. Falling between the cracks classification, but doing it with a lot of style and grace.

Bottle. Black. BIg short lasting head. Smells chocolate malt and hops. Tastes american hops, chocolate malt. There is also some kind of tartness to this beer that i like and have noticed in other Nøgne Ø beers aswell.

bottled as Nøgne Ø Winter Ale in the U.S. absolutely wonderful... full of rich malty and caramel flavors... silky smooth body and character dominate the palate... slight bitter finish. pours a dark brown with little head. Nøgne Ø knows how to brew some beer - this is just another excellent example.

Bottle. Pours dark brown, almost black, just a little light gets through the corners. Thick, one finger tan head, really good lacing. Medium, velvety and crisp body. Sweet fruity smells, pear, orange, and mango. Big fruity malt flavor, aforementioned fruit, caramel, and coffee. Subtle hop flavors, not very bitter, well balanced and drinkable.

500ml bottle, batch 453. Dark brown with an average dark beige head. The aroma is great, sweet and roasted malts with earthy hops, liquorice, caramel, dark fruits and hints of alcohol. Flavor is mainly of roasted malts and nice dark fruits with some spiciness and hints of chocolate and liquorice. Palate is pleasant, full and creamy. I need to get a couple of bottles of this for christmas, it was delicious. Merry Christmas Nøgne Ø :)

courtesy of oh6gdx - opaque dark ruby-brown colour with a fine and stable beige head; beautiful lace; a bit toasty, rich aroma of prunes, honey and some undefined spices; sweet and clean mouthfeel, good malt backbone; slightly salty and bitter with a long dry aftertaste of dark chocolate and spices - a superb beer which invites to meditation
