Pitch black colour, big chocolate brown head. Lovely aroma of whisky barrel (possibly used for sherry before whisky?), but the whisky elements are not overdone - also notes of chocolate, dark dried fruits, vanilla and coffee. Full and rich mouthfeel. The flavour has a pronounced malty sweetness and well balanced roastiness, again notes of oak, sherry, dark dried fruits, vanilla and coffee - also moderate notes of tar. An excellent example of how good oak aged impy stouts can be, when the balance is just right.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 27, 2009 Bottle from Knut Albert, which he very kindly shared at Pig’s Ear 09. Black as night. Thin tan head. Intense imp stout aroma. Lovely smooth stout. Some whisky. Good beer. Lovely, larsga (2992), Oslo, Norway
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 20, 2009 Big dark brown, nearly black, lasting head. Opaque black body. Subtle deep roasty chocolate aroma with alcoholic toffee notes. Very harmonic. Sweetish-dry alcoholic roasty whisky chocolate taste with burnt hoppy nutty notes. Silky smooth mouthfeel with alcohol heat is milky and creamy. Fullish body. Dryish nutty sugary whisky aftertaste with burnt-toffee notes. Quite sweet. Surprisingly mild and balanced. A bit all over the place in terms of taste, but still nice, and somehow it all hangs together. The alcohol and whisky taste really adds to the beer, but less hops would probably help. Aroma is whisky, some mild chocolate, alcohol, wood and mild notes of roast. Flavouor is whisky, nuts, some grains and dark fruits. Mild roasted and liquoriceish notes as well. Has lost a bunch of the original beer under the whisky notes. MesandSim (5955), London, Greater London, England
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 16, 2009 A Mes rate. Bottle at Pigs Ear thanks muchly to me nutty mate Albert. Looks like a Nøgne Ø Imperial Stout, so that’s an easy 4. Very slightly buttery and the spirits verge more toward a bourbon feel. Chewy, full and viscous with all I like about the regular version but somehow it just doesn’t sit quite right. Excellent, no doubt, but I feel without the time in the barrel, it’s even better. Slightly waterly if it can be said. At the en hoppy bites. Soft whiskey finish. Also some vanilla. Slight dissappointment. mjs (1542), Helsinki, Finland
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 6, 2009 (Bottle at Pikkulintu) Poured black with small brown head. Aroma contained vanilla and roastedness. Palate was full bodied and oily with medium carbonation. Flavours were roastedness, vanilla, whisky, chocolate, malts, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste contained roastedness and vanilla. Really nice combination. The whisky and barrel flavours didn’t hide the original imperial stout flavour. It was clearly present. | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 21, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with a big creamy brown head. Chunks and spots of suds are clinging to the glass as it’s being emptied dangerously fast. Nice. Aroma is very inviting, typical imperial stout characteristics as roasted notes, chocolate, some coffee, dried dark fruits, some vanilla, with a smoky and spiced side to it. The whisky is definitely there, but the base beer is still the dominant factor. Some alcohol as well. Flavour is big, the notes in the aroma augmented by the creamy and thick mouthfeel. Very well balanced, the whisky not dominating in any sense like it often does in BA imp stouts. Ends fairly bitter, dry cocoa style. Glad I got more of this. KnutAlbert (3217), Oslo, Norway

Feels more soft and round than the regular Imperial Stout, with a background of wood and whisky.
Nice warm finish. Well balanced, you can not pick out any strong character from a particular type of whisky.
Lovely beer for sipping, long spicy aftertaste ending up with a bit of smoke.
