Bottle @ Balsam Cocktail Lounge Oslo, Norway. Pitch black and sirupy with thick foam. A bit weak on the aroma compared to the great taste. Otherwise a GREAT porter!

Thanks to a great bartender at Philadelphia’s Eulogy Tavern I had a bottle of this great porter. Pours a dark midnight brown and supports a thin but dense and long lasting light brown head with solid curtains of lacing. Roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate, and toffee in the nose with the same in the flavors. Some cocoa and vanilla along with enough hops to provide a nice bitter overtone as well. Smooth and velvety texture and a dry finish with a little peppery alcohol popping out at the end. If other brewers in Norway turn out this kind of quality, I might have to add their stamp to my passport.

Straightforward but solid porter. Poured black with average head that was not sustained. Nice lacing. Aroma of dark fruits and chocolate, although not too much aroma. Flavor of choclate, malit with a little hop dryness at the end. Not overly complex. Smooth full bodied taste. Reallly nice porter.

Bottled sample consumed with oakbluff. Near black in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, and red grapes. Very roasty and dry in the mouth, but it doesn’t sacrifice too much in terms of malt presence or body. Very drinkable for 7% ABV, with a long roasted malt finish. Very good indeed.

Bottle. First thing is that as I pop the cap there is a fizzy whoosh, but then nothing good or bad really comes of it... flavor is fine, floor isn’t covered in foam, nothing. Anyhow, pour is a dark brown with only about a half inch of head... in spite of the aforementioned sound. Aromas are light chocolate and dark fruit, but fairly faint. Flavor is heavily cocoa with some dark malt. That said, things don’t fully blossom as it is kind of unidimensiona.

1/2 litre bottle courtesy of and shared with Maniac. Black with a medium tan head. Big roast malt aroma with some coffee, raisin and molases. Roast malts dominate flavor with some raisin, coffee, and earthy hops and a moderate astringency. Finish is dry with a bit of lingering bitterness. Excellent.

Dark brown body with light ruby highlights, and a large creamy tan head. Chocolate and roasted malt aroma with some caramel hints. Big roasted malt flavor with chocolate notes and more faint caramel and light molassas and a reasonable bitter finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation and a smooth chocolately finish.

Black beer. Thick brown head. Roasted malt nose with a hint of chocolate. Chocolate taste up front. Huge building roast flavour. Sharp aluminum chocolate finish.
