LiebeBier (788), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Jun 1, 2008 Bottle - I found this beer to be quite nice. Bready/raisin aroma with chocolate malt, burnt coffee and raisin flavor. mikkopen (250), Oulu, Finland May 31, 2008 500 ml bottle. Deep dark brown, creamy beige head. Roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee in the aroma. Flavour is coffee, dark fruits, nuts and roasted malts. Ashy, a bit smoky aftertaste. An excellent porter. 502Flavors (617), Louisville, Kentucky, USA May 29, 2008 16.9 oz. into pint glass. Pitch black pour with great creamy espresso, long-lasting head with very nice cascade effect as head and body settle into each other. Typical porter/stout aromas - coffee, molasses, milk chocolate, etc. - with a sweet vanilla undertone; very well rounded and complex and delicious aroma. Flavor is rich and full with all aromas included, most notably chocolate. Very soft and smooth on taste buds (like on palate) with no rough or offensive edges. Overall: one of the best porters I have ever had; not watery on palate like many other non-imperial porters (some ratings disagree though). urbnhautebourg (972), Annapolis, Maryland, USA May 28, 2008 Lots and lots of raisin flavors, stewed fruit make this a much heavier beer that I expected. I have never really loved the raisin and prune characteristics of dark malts and can’t say that this beer has turned me on to them. restless7 (104), Lenexa, Kansas, USA May 24, 2008 BOTTLE: served cool. Dark with nice quick head. Aroma is definitely fruity and enticing but not very strong. Flavor is unexpected fruitiness combined with the coffee and dark malt, with a bitter finish. A most surprising porter with features unlike any other I’ve had. Palate is nice and medium length. beachbum25 (778), Powellville, Maryland, USA May 19, 2008 50 Cl Bottle-Black pour w/a trace of Mahogany. Moderate tan head. Standard porter flavor, maybe a little more coffee than anything else, a little light on the chocolate. Had a little bite to it, I prefer mine a little smoother. Mouthfeel was kind of thin. Solid brew, but I was honestly a little disapointed what with all the buzz on these beers. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA May 19, 2008 50 cl bottle on 5/19/08. Dark brown with mahogany highlights and a large, creamy, and persistent light tan head. Inviting coffee and chocolate aroma accented with roasted nuts and a bit of earthiness. Medium to full body and light carbonation match up well with a creamy smooth mouthfeel.
Molasses sweetness subsides slowly, ultimately giving way to a gentle spicy bitterness. Wonderful balance in this fine porter. Very drinkable, highly recommended. dkachur (2313), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA May 17, 2008 Bottle from somewhere in North Carolina. Pours cola brown with a medium head. Good retention, moderate lacing. Nice roasty, mocha aroma. Taste is a little lighter than I expected, but what is there is good... roasted malt, coffee, nuts. Creamy feel.
