Fantastic aroma of coffee and sweet roasted caramel malts. Mouth feel is very smooth and creamy. The initial taste is very sweet, a little bit of nutty chocolate. The finish is a lightly caramelized coffee bean. Very delicious aftertaste to a well balanced beer. wilkie (1189), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

Aroma is filled with dark malts--chocolate, coffee, caramel, with some dark fruit and nut smell. Flavor is similar, lots of chocolate, coffee roastiness, some smoke even. Bittersweet finish from malt. Delicious. nightrider (373), encinitas, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 21, 2008 Poured from a bottle was a pretty dark brown beer with a good tan head. Nice aromas of sweet chocolate roasty malt. Pretty pleasantly smooth in your mouth. A little carbonation and good chocolate cofee like flavors. Good finish for a porter. Pretty solid beer. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 21, 2008 Hadn’t really expected much with this and was really suprised to find out how dry the beer was. There was really very little sweetness left, just a lot of ashy/roasted notes that I didn’t find all that enjoyable. The beer looked great though. A nice thick black liquid with a creamy tan foamy head. Aroma smelled a lot like coffee too, with some dark chocolate notes too. I know I’m unabashed in my love of stouts, especially those on the sweeter side of things. This beer was clearly on the other end of the spectrum. But still, I did enjoy the beer and would get it again. yespr (12018), Copenhagen O, Denmark
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 17, 2008 50 cL bottle. Pours black with a dense light brown head. Roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Promise of a roasted and hops bitter flavour. Flavour is mild tar, light smoked, roasted malt and smooth chocolate following. Very smooth with liqourice added along the way. Light roasted bitterness following into a chocolate and roasted malt bitter finish. Very nice. One of the pre-RB beers I finally get to rate. Perfect for boiling vegetables in the owen, carrots for instance. Seriously! Goodgrief (1149), Middletown, Delaware, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 12, 2008 Pour was jet black with minimal head and lacing. Nice aroma of chocolate and roast with vinous notes. The flavor was rich chocolate and dark fruits with hints of roast and coffee. Really nice thick milkshake like mouthfeel. This was quite enjoyable, even if I had to sell my kids off for medical experimentation to pay for the bottle. Ando (105), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 7, 2008 16.9oz bottle. On point stuff. The aroma is spot on, chocolate and roasted malt scents all the way. Deep opaque black color. The malt character just shines with this beer. Super well-balanced and full bodied porter, while remaining completely drinkable. Chewy and big, one of the best porters out there.
