austone (998), Turku; Pori, Finland Mar 23, 2008 (Bottled 10/2006) Black with light, tanned head. Nose is strong dark chocolate and soft burned malts. Flavor has liquorice and dark fruits. Finishes with coffee, chocolate and smoothly herbal bitterness. Medium bodied, round and a bit oily palate. Rich and satisfying, without being that heavy. Metalhead (570), Lake Zurich, Illinois, USA Mar 21, 2008 Black Pour. Fairly large and growing head. Aroma of cocoa, coffee a tad of licorice.
Taste is similar to aroma. One of the better porters I’ve had tho I’ll admit the style is down on my list. Gr0ve (1382), Oslo, Norway Mar 18, 2008 500 ml bottle. Black, almost pitch black, but there are some reddish hues. Thick beige and grey head that clings to the glass. Chocolatey aroma that leans towards cocao powder. Grassy hop aroma. Piney hop flavours and crisp carbonation balances a rich chewy chocolate flavour. Malty, but not really sweet, likely because of the amount of hops used. Bitterness lingers a long time together with oily chocolate. Delicious. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Mar 16, 2008 500ml bottle. Pours black with a crisp tan head that fades quick to nothing. Smells roasty and ashy/burnt. Also smells dark and fruity sweet. Tastes sweet and roasty, raisins and dark fruit. Medim body with good carbonation and a pretty dry mouthfeel. KimJohansen (6645), Copenhagen V, Denmark Mar 16, 2008 Black with huge brown head. Sweet aroma with notes of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Same goes for the flavor that ends slightly bitter. alexsdad06 (1056), Ohio, USA Mar 16, 2008 500 ml bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a medium sized diminishing tan head. The aroma is a little subdued but includes roasted malt and semi sweet chocolate. The flavor leans heavily to the roasted malt side, but also includes semi sweet chocolate, a touch of dark fruits, and a hint of licorice and vanilla. Maybe a touch thin, but very good otherwise. Could serve as a solid warmer weather dark beer. taunusmies (276), Finland Mar 14, 2008 What a taste. Beautifully smooth malty aroma with a hint of smoke, coffee, biscuits, raisins, salty liquorice, dark chocolate... Aftertaste is long, turns on the slightly sweet side. Another great beer from Norge. SaintMatty (1197), Tallinn, Estonia Mar 12, 2008 500ml Bottle- Black in colour with a tan head. Liquorice and coffee featuring in the mildly alcoholic aroma. Aniseed and liquorice in the taste which is balanced with coffee and a very slight sour hint to the finish. Not bad at all.
