renffisch (495), london, Greater London, England Mar 11, 2008 yummy bottle at ethereal’s. Raspberry, medicinal herbs, seaweed, toasted malt, tar black, brown stable head, camphor, roasted barley, bitter, salty liquorice sweets, smooth, expertly balanced, yummy stuff.- this is honestly what my notes looked like! a bit of a mess but i did really like it :-) RollinHard (749), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Mar 9, 2008 Thanks to my secret santa for this. Pours black with a modest, long-lasting tan head. Aroma is distinctly "Nogne" with a sort of burnt caramel, mineral heavy water, leaves, roast, chocolate, raisins...pretty versatile aroma when warm. When cold, it’s kinda meh. Tastes more normal though, some roast astringency, dirt, minerals, coffee, finishing with a pleasant roasty aftertaste, a little lactose as the beer gets swallowed. Medium palate, easy drinking, fairly well carbonated. It’s alright. alobar (1006), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 9, 2008 Pours a nice black color with a tan head. Roasted aroma with coffee and some chocolate. Tastes of predominantly roasted malts with coffee and dark chocolate. Well-balanced, creamy with just a hint of carbonation. zeke626 (301), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Mar 9, 2008 Pours an opaque, black body with foamy, tan head. Aroma of cocoa, malts, yeast, bread, and some hops. Flavor initially is dark fruit, but then gives way to a strong dark roasted malt taste with cigar smoke. The dark fruit character tends to come out more as the beer warms. Medium-bodied, but comes off slightly watery. Smoke and coffee aftertaste. akevitt (97), Valhalla, Minnesota, USA Mar 9, 2008 Updated: Apr 18, 2008Thanks to zeke626 for sharing. The beer was opaque black/brown almost motor oilish, generous amount of light brown head. Mild hops and faint chocolate malt were present in the aroma. I tasted fairly bold burnt malt (but not charred) with the faint presence of sugar and alcohol. The hops were almost non-existent. As it warmed I began to get more alcohol and the taste of sweet dark fruit at the start of the beer. Smooth, not too heavy on the palate. A very solid porter!
