Pours a pitch black color, with very prominent marshmallow-like tan head. Leaves tons of gorgeous lacing. An awesome beer just to stare at and appreciate. Aroma has some soft malts, licorice, caramel, and a nice underlying roasty quality. Rich sugars and fruits in the flavor; some caramel, roasted coffee, dry molasses. Pretty good. Smooth and velvet-like body. Incredibly easy to drink. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Really well balanced flavor - hops and good roasted malt character. Great palate. Overall, one of the better porters that I’ve had. polomagnifico (533), Saginaw, Michigan, USA

Above average sized tan head that mostly diminished and left no lace. Black hue. Flavor has caramel, coffee, chocolate, and yeast. Palate is medium bodied and smooth. A little off in places but average. SuzyGreenberg (1324), Seattle, Washington, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Feb 22, 2008 Bottle from Marcus - Thanks! Interesting aromas of toasted malt, chocolate, reddish fruits, and perhaps a bit of coffee. Opaque brown/black color with a beige/tan head that’s respectable. Medium body with smooth frothy carbonation. Flavors are sharp burnt malt, coffee, chocolate, hop bitter and more. The finish is dry, and a bit muddy as the flavors intermingle. Decent amount of burnt toast and bitter. Really good to drink. joohefner (380), Isla Vista, California, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 20, 2008 From Firemoose15 via trade a while back. Thank you! The pour was a fairly standard one for a porter. Super dark brown with lighter brown and ruby highlights on the peripheries. The head was two-fingers or more tall and tan. Clingy bits of lacing. The aroma was roasted malt, chocolate, light licorice and even a little bit of spicy hops. The flavor was heavy on the roasted malt and spice with chocolate and licorice nicely cutting through. Fairly lively carbonation initially but that dissipated quickly. The mouthfeel was fine, unremarkable. A nice, roasty porter. hiddenvariable (194), pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 16, 2008 bottle. pours a jet black, with a thick, incredibly dense, tan head with great retention and nice sheets of lacing. smells of bittersweet cocoa, coffee, burnt wood, as well as some raisins and berries. bitter semi-sweetened dark chocolate taste with more roasty coffee notes backing it up, in addition to more grapey and raisiny notes, as well as a light floral hop character. slow, lingering, pleasant bitter finish, leaving a sort of grapey wood aftertaste, with a very light sweetness for balancing; quite dry. medium bodied and lots of creamy carbonation, for a very silky mouthfeel. i always want porters to be thicker, so that they can be stouts, but this is an exceptional example of the style, and i very much enjoyed it.
