(650ml bottle) Sampled at Oakes 2007 Christmas party. Very rich fig and chewy. Very alcoholic; strong flavours of a nicely balanced soya sauce with minor coffee. Alcoholic finish. Amazing this is only 7% and so alcoholic.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of dark bread and light coffee, light hops note of herbs, moderate yeast of earth and smoke, wood and dates in the background. Head is huge, tan and rocky with fair lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is solid black. Flavor is lightly sweet and acidic to start and lightly acidic, bitter and a little sour in the long finish. Palate is medium to full, creamy, with a lively carbonation and finishes moderately dry. A very good smokey porter.

Pours midnight brown w/ a tall lasting froth. Even though this brew was right out of the fridge it managed to push up a ton of foam. Great effort. The lacing is sticky, lasting, and fluffy w/ a thick downy canopy. Aromas of roasted coffee and dusty Belgian malts. Full nectar w/ soft and oily residual effers. A big, chewy, mocha basted, gluttonous malt backbone w/ a forward roast component comprise the general disposition here. Dry as a bone w/ heavily roasted coffee bean, leather, degrated darkfruit skins. The finish is bittered well w/ a rather strong hop profile. This is a huge beer. Strong w/ a serious attitude. Drinks like molten dark chocolate. I’ll bet it will benefit from some serious aging. I’m gonna toss a few in the age basket. Highly recommended.

A very fine porter. Ample roastiness that is very dirty tasting. A big tan head on this guy. Medium body with a maltiness that lingers on the swallow.

500 ml bottle from Holiday. This one pours and opaque black color with a one finger tan head that last a short while. The aroma was medium in strength with dark chocolate and a touch of molasses. The flavor is rich with more dark chocolate, cappuccino, plums , roasted malts and an earthy quality. The hops are effective and well integrated, but its the malts that carry the day with this porter. The mouthfeel is smooth, full and creamy. The finish is long and gratifying. Overall: This is a great porter and a malt-head’s dream. Recommended.

Well executed porter! Alcohol is blended very well with light caramel notes and strong malt presence. Light to medium hops, a little nutty, full bodied. Great aroma. This one is towards the top!

Pours totally cloudy black with lacing, nice looks. Sublime nose of well-constructed sweet malts and baked dried fruits. Some alcohol detectable and adds warmth. Super mouthfeel. Tastes a lot like an imperial stout and is quite roasty.

Hah! I thought I rated this one but I guess not. Black pour, moderate tan head, some lacing and retention. Aroma is typical porter - chocolate, coffee, roast, caramel, moderate to low hops. Medium to light body, fairly dry. Not bad.
