stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Dec 20, 2007 500 ml bottle from Holiday. This one pours and opaque black color with a one finger tan head that last a short while. The aroma was medium in strength with dark chocolate and a touch of molasses. The flavor is rich with more dark chocolate, cappuccino, plums , roasted malts and an earthy quality. The hops are effective and well integrated, but its the malts that carry the day with this porter. The mouthfeel is smooth, full and creamy. The finish is long and gratifying. Overall: This is a great porter and a malt-head’s dream. Recommended. themadmumis (344), Westminster, Maryland, USA Dec 18, 2007 Well executed porter! Alcohol is blended very well with light caramel notes and strong malt presence. Light to medium hops, a little nutty, full bodied. Great aroma. This one is towards the top! Beershine (2677), Hue, Vietnam Dec 17, 2007 Pours totally cloudy black with lacing, nice looks. Sublime nose of well-constructed sweet malts and baked dried fruits. Some alcohol detectable and adds warmth. Super mouthfeel. Tastes a lot like an imperial stout and is quite roasty. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Dec 17, 2007 Hah! I thought I rated this one but I guess not. Black pour, moderate tan head, some lacing and retention. Aroma is typical porter - chocolate, coffee, roast, caramel, moderate to low hops. Medium to light body, fairly dry. Not bad. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Dec 12, 2007 Pitch black with a tan head. Huge smell of roasted grains, nuts and pit fruits. Medium bodied and smooth. Intense flavors of blackened malts, ripe pit fruits, malted chocolate. A rich, complex porter here, I like this better than Nogne’s Imperial Stout. Excellent. 10/26/07 papajohn (1054), San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA Dec 11, 2007 1 pt .9 oz bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar: Pure black color with a generous cocoa froth head. Aroma is semi-sweet dark chocolate. Flavor starts light burnt roasted malt followed by dark chocolate and a little black coffee with a dry bitter coffee / dark chocolate finish. Medium body is silky with moderate carbonation. DeweyDell (155), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 10, 2007 500 mL bottle. Pours a dark brown black color with a nice-sized tan head and a ridiculous amount of yeast that mostly sinks to the bottom, but a lot remains floating around in the beer-part of the beer. This is the most unique characteristic of this one. Chocolatey woody aroma... good but not overwhelmingly so. Nice flavor, predictable, again nothing that knocks my socks off, but good. Really, this is a little thin bodied. Decent, good even... but wouldn’t buy it again. DrHomolka (725), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 10, 2007 500ml bottle. Pours normal porter brown/black with a large foamy tan ocean of a head that sticks around. Aroma is scotch tape and smoke at first but then fades into a nice creamy chocolate smell. Very nice milk chocolate aroma akin to Bell’s Kalamazoo. Some smokiness resides making it unique. Smells smooth and creamy. Taste is chocolatey, lightly bitter, subdued roastiness. Mouthfeel is creamy and soft though watery, to a fault though just barely. A little flat maybe. Incredibly drinkable. This is a good porter.
