porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Dec 9, 2007 (500 ml bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/portland/downeast-beverage-co/974.htm target=blank>Downeast Beverage Co., cellared for 8 mos. after purchase) Thick, rich, roasty and chocolatey...Pours very dark brown with some highlights along edges. Three fingers of creamy-looking mocha head. Aroma of dark chocolate, a bit of coffee roast and grain. Mouthfeel is quite full and thick, some oiliness, some smooth milk-shakey creaminess. Heavy, weepy rings of lacing. Flavor is heavy dark chocolate with some hints of milk chocolate along with fresh coffee roast. At times veers towards a stout. Not much complexity but quite tasty and thick. BigMilly8 (374), Holiday, Florida, USA Dec 8, 2007 From bottle : Pours a black as night color with a half finger of light brown head, that dies down to a ring after a couple minutes. A very roasted malt and chocolate nose of this one, very stong, with some hints of alcohol. Pretty thick bodied beer, but it is very light going down, kinda weird. Flavor is tons of roasted malt again, with some chocolate. Finishes with some alcohol, and has a chocolate aftertaste. Pretty nice porter. a10555 (123), West Chester, Ohio, USA Dec 8, 2007 Smells like liquid dark chocolate. Really dark color and had thick brown head that withered away into a nice lacy cling. was really smooth to start and the dark chocolate really came out in the finish kind of dry with a slight alcohol burn. Good stuff. brentfeesh (1030), Gadsden, Alabama, USA Dec 8, 2007 Liquid black with a just a bit of head. Not a very good smelling porter in my opinion. Tar, charcoal and a sharp sweetness. Chalky taste with a dry coco that borders on milk chocolate. Slightly acidic. Body and mouth feel were semi-dry and chalky. Really nothing I’ll ever get again. ako (153), Turku, Finland Dec 8, 2007 Black, brown head. Liquorice and malt in the aroma. Flavor is a little more dry, still maltiness and liquorice most dominant. Long bitter finish. An excellent porter, full and balanced. craftbeerdesign (731), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Dec 7, 2007 bottle. pours a deep black with a tan head that lasts through most of the glass. Tremendous amount of malts in here.... also, coffee, fruits (slight plum) and chocolate. medium body, not too carbonated and very diverse. A very nice porter from Norway.... one of the best imo. complex, delicious and full of enjoyment. JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Nov 26, 2007 500ml from Sam’s, Durham. Nice looking pour with a slightly too-modest head. The aroma is delectable, very chocolatey, and the rich flavors continue in the taste (along with a generous, and fairly unexpected bit of smoke and roast coffee). Lustrous mouthfeel initially, but tapers off and is a bit too thin, I think. Overall, though, it’s a lovely porter with complexity and power. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Nov 25, 2007 Pours very dark brown with a sudsy brown head that had good retention. The aroma has roasted malt, lush creamy aspects, milk chocolate and rich vanilla. Medium / full body with a smooth slick and soft carbonation. The flavor starts off with milk chocolate, roasted malt showing very little bitterness, vanilla cream and light hoppy spice. The finish shows more spice and some white chocolate. Big thumbs up for this world class porter.
