wickedpete (625), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Nov 24, 2007 Pours black with a sizable tan head. Aroma is thick and sweet with bakers chocolate and licorice. Flavor is not as powerful as the aroma. Roasted bitterness with some sweet maltiness. The body is thinner than I expected from such a dark aromatic brew. f351c4v (404), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 24, 2007 Pours a deep black color with a minimal tan head. Aroma of sweet chocolates, and licorice. Silky body, very smooth. Great bittersweet chocolate presence. Fresh coffee roast on the finish, quite dry. More of a stout than a porter, in my eyes, but great nonetheless. leaparsons (4659), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Nov 20, 2007 Bottle. Very dark brown with a beige head. Aromas are earthy roast malts with citrus. Smoky with some chocolate. Flavours are roast malts with sweet and dark chocolate. Rich and malty. Bitter and dry on the finish. Oily and addictive. RichardGretton (3131), Leicestershire, England Nov 18, 2007 Bottle. Black beer with a light head. The aroma is strongly coffee and dry, and the flavour is very dry and coffeeish. Overall a nice roasted coffeeish beer. FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA Nov 17, 2007 Bottle. Nearly opaque brown-black color with a medium sized dark brown head. Bittersweet chocolate and hints of roastiness in the aroma. Dark alefruit up front, with a nutty toastiness. Slight smokiness with a large chocolate character. Roasty, toasty finish with lingering baker’s chocolate and a phenolic bite. Mouthfeel is a heavy medium, somewhat dry. Jonte (801), Gothenburg, Sweden Nov 11, 2007 Updated: Aug 1, 2009Bottle. Deep brown/black color with a brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, syrup and coffee. Tastes of roasted malt, caramel, coffee, butter, dried fruits and chocolate. Creamy and caramelly. Not much bitterness. Nice porter. Re-rated 090802. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Nov 10, 2007 Dark color. Smell of roasted coffee, malt, chocolate, liquid smoke, dark fruit, hops and a touch of caramel/toffee. Taste of coco, hops, roasted coffee beans, malt, bread, caramel and sugar. It was thin but still enjoyable. Wish it was a little thicker. asteele8 (270), Mukilteo, Washington, USA Nov 10, 2007 Bottle. Pours a dark black color with a nice creamy brown head on top. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, dried fruit, smoke, and licorice. Flavor is smooth with dry bitter chocolate, coffee, dark roastiness, and licorice.
