Smell of roasted coffee, malt, chocolate, liquid smoke, dark fruit, hops and a touch of caramel/toffee. Taste of coco, hops, roasted coffee beans, malt, bread, caramel and sugar. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, dried fruit, smoke, and licorice. Flavor is smooth with dry bitter chocolate, coffee, dark roastiness, and licorice. On the palate this beer seems just a tad bit too thin. Overall a wonderful porter. 19641948 (492), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 4, 2007 Bottle. Pours obsidian black with rather large cocoa foamy head. A considerable amount of yeast seems left in the bottle. Nose is raisiny, mildly like pepto bismol, smoky, perhaps some port. Velvety on the palate, not too thick, some coffee and chocolate tones but mostly dark fruits, leading to a salty, tangy finish that is well bittered with British style hops. Quite a nice beer.
