| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 26, 2007 500 ml bottle from Blue Max in Burnsville, MN (June 2007, consumed a bit below cellar temperature from a Unibroue glass. The fluffy medium-tan head dies slowly, leaving thick and chunky lacing atop the opaque ebon-hued nectar....strongly roasty nose offers bitter dark chocolate and espresso beans, a hint of old port, a faint whisper of vanilla and caramel, perhaps a breeze of dates, in short just what I’m wanting in a fine porter....the flavor picks up nicely, with a bit of nutty (walnuts or pecans) character joining the roasty cold chocolaty cowboy coffee....it’s quite smooth and easy to drink, and therein lies the only small flaw to me, as a bit too much sweetness emerges and there is a faint cloying aspect from the middle through the finish, enhanced by the low carbonation....still quite pleasant, if not spectacular. radiomgb (1957), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 26, 2007 Black in colour, rich lingering tan coloured head, great lacing. The aroma is sweet and rich, dark chocolate, light liquorice, coffee and light alcohol. The flavour is of chocolate, quite sweet, lots of malt, roasty, nutty, some coffee. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes long, sweet with some alcohol heat. The sweetness starts to come through more than the roast as this start to warm up. Quite good and warming.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 25, 2007 Very deep, dark brown to virtually black pour. Small tan colored head that settles to a thin foamy layer. Small patches of lacing noted. The aroma is big time dark coffee and bitter baker’s chocolate. The flavor follows suit almost exactly. The coffee is so imposing in this one that I didn’t really get any of the dried fruit. It’s pretty bitter, though it does mellow out a bit as it warms. Medium body that goes down moderately smooth and leaves a long coffee finish. Decent brew, but too much in-your-face coffee and not enough depth. grant (792), Long Beach, CA/Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 25, 2007 Bottle shared by DYC. Ample light brown head superimposed on a very, very dark brown body. Acidic aroma: anise, roasted malt, dark chocolate. More acidity early in flavor, wisps of smokey and evergreen bitterness. Very creamy, brashly roasty finish.
