| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 2, 2007 Like the other Nogne beer I sampled, this one has that nice hoppy bitterness, except this time its more subdued and has a somewhat fruit-laden sweet tone with dark malts and chocolate hints. I enjoyed this beer by myself at Cooper’s Seafood after packing stuff for my 84 year old grandma. I feel the alcohol is well hidden but was tired so maybe it wasn’t as noticeable. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 1, 2007 Pours very dark, near pitch black, with a one finger tan head that fades qui8ckly to a thin cap. The resulting lacing forms sheets in the glass, but does not stick all that well.
Smell; very roasty, with dark chocolate and coffee, and little bit of a sourness.
Taste; as with the aroma the flavor is very much dark roasted malts, eith some chocolate and coffee. There’s also a little nit of a hop bitterness followed by a touch of a charred flavor and little bit of sour. This is a very good porter.
Mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side, which is my only real complaint about this beer, and there’s a bit of warming in the back of the throat. The drinkabiliity is very good as well. marcus (1850), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 1, 2007 This black ale poured with a frothy dark tan head that quickly diminished. This is a very chewy brew with a rich chocolate malt flavor and a coffee finish. Almost tastes like a dessert. jerc (3885), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 1, 2007 Bottle. Black body with a big fluffy brown head. Moderate aroma of cocoa , sweet malt, and a tiny hint of roast is lovely but a bit too understated. Flavour is lovely, with light roast malt, and bitterness accenting a sweet malty flavour with some light fruit notes. Exceptionally well balanced, the lingering chocolaty roast in the aftertaste is enjoyable, showing a bit more of a coffee-like character than the initial flavour. Alcohol is deceptive. Smooth medium body. (3+) Very nice. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | May 30, 2007 Pours a opaque brown with a medium tan head. Aroma loses me, perhaps it is the different water but it seems metallic and a little thin. This goes along with the taste, yes the chocolate and roasted malts were there but it lacked a certain viscosity. An average beer with an ABV that is sure to boost it. I was reluctant to buy this beer due to the label reminding me of the old Warner Bros "Batman" series game with Nintendo and the purple "O" was like the Riddler part, which I hated. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 29, 2007 Bottle. Pours black with a nice brown head. Aromas of roasted malts. Flavors of coffee, roasted malts and chocolate. Perhaps a bitr too thin of a body for an otherwise robust porter. Bitter finish that lasts and a bit of spiciness. caesar (3028), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 29, 2007 Clear dark brown color, big brown head. Good strong porter aroma, coffee, licorice, some roasted malt, dried fruit. Good creamy texture. Roasted taste, bitter, coffee, some chocolat. Very good porter. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 28, 2007 This has an intensely dark brown body with a thick ’n’ creamy tan head. The aroma is filled with coffee and bittersweet chocolate while having undertones of dark fruits. Roasted barley blends in with the chocolate and coffee in the flavor while a nutty bitterness grows in potency. Well crafted and tasty.
