Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Jan 25, 2009 Pours a dark, opaque brown with a small tan head that deposits patchy lace on the glass. The nose is of chocolate, light coffee, faint almonds and roasted chocolate malt. Medium-bodied and creamy-slick with a mildly bitter and roasty finish. Sweet roasted chocolaty malt with a light almond and hop bitterness at the finish. A lingering coffee roastiness compliments the hops into the aftertaste. This is a fine porter. I really like this beer. AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Jan 20, 2009 Pours deep brown with a thin tan head. Nose and flavor of smooth chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. Creamy on the palate. fidel (885), Livermore, California, USA Jan 19, 2009 Updated: Oct 5, 2009Pours dark brown/black, roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, little molasses, little nutty, slight licorice. sundevil27 (45), , New Jersey, USA Jan 11, 2009 Bottle - poured dark in color with a tan head. Hints of chocolate and coffee. Medium to full bodied. Another solid beer from Nogne. Grizzle (44), Lawrence, Kansas, USA Jan 6, 2009 1 pt. .9 fl. oz. bottle in a pint glass. Pours an immensely dark color, with a medium tan head. The head dissipates quickly, but laces nicely. Chunks of yeast are visible floating within the glass. Yum. It smells of malts, coffee, candied nuts, caramel, and figs. It tastes of coffee, roasted malts, and very dark chocolate. There is a nice, mild hop characteristic helping to balance the flavor. Palate is thinner than expected, but not offsetting. talon1117 (613), Bellvue, Colorado, USA Jan 3, 2009 Pours a very dark brown with a full, light tan, creamy, somewhat rocky head; longevity is fair and some nice lace remains. Nose is pleasant with fudge, light cocoa, moderate coffee roast, and hints at anise and dark dried fruit. Flavor is good as well but more roasted, a bit stoutish; bitter chocolate, burnt fudge, light expresso, hints at molasses and anise, and a moderately high bitterness from both the roasting and the hops. A bit more roasting than most porters, but certainly nice as a stout. Palate is less than medium, watery, lively, and drying; my only complaint from the beer. Finishes drying and mostly bitter with some burnt toast notes, expresso, and some rustic notes lingering; most of the sweet notes disappear by the end. Not like most other porters with the use of more roasted malts but good nonetheless. Somewhere between stout and porter. With a better palate, this would be great.
Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Dec 29, 2008 Bottle. Pours a black body with a tan head. Roasty coffee, chocolate, caramel malt, light nuttiness, vanilla with sweet minerals to finish.
